Re: F.O.G.
Just thought about it, the oils in the Oreos would probably break down. When I learned LTS, first thing I had drilled in my head, store items that only have one or two ingredients. Never use oxygen absorbers with salt, sugar, baking soda (these 3 last forever without any protection other than a bottle to keep dry and bugs out), seeds you want to plant or sprout - as in wheat - taking out the oxygen kills the seed. So I put aside some wheat for sprouting/planting that doesn't have O2A's, after all, they have found viable wheat seeds in Egyptian tombs that are 2,000-3,000 years old.

Baking powder does NOT last forever. To make your own baking powder store the two ingredients which both have indefinite shelf life. Baking Soda and Cream of Tartar

1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons cream of tartar
1 teaspoon corn starch (optional)

Mix the baking soda and cream of tartar together until well combined. Use immediately.

Yield: One tablespoon of baking powder.

To store baking powder: Add a teaspoon of corn starch to the mixture, and stir. This will absorb any moisture from the air, and prevent the baking powder from reacting before you need it. Store in an air-tight container. Should be used within a month or so.

Most baking powder has aluminum in it, this is what makes it last longer, it is also poison to you, so buy it without aluminum or make your own. I use Rumford brand which is aluminum free and had a best buy 18 months from when I bought it.

Hint on how to know your baking powder is old: what made will start to have a bitter taste to it, as if you used 3x's as much bp than you should have. I couldn't figure out why a recipe for banana bread that I had been making for decades suddenly started tasting bad. I halved the BP, I even changed recipes, yuck. Then I made biscuits that I had been making for years and yuck! Looked at my BP....blush, the stuff had expired 3 years earlier! Looked it up and sure enough, this is a sign your BP is old. Duh!

Now I buy my BP in smaller cans unless I have major baking to do! My LTS includes lots of Cream of Tartar, Baking Soda and Corn Starch.

It's raining spiders - to the tune of It's Raining Men

A spider colony falling from the sky is one eerie sight, especially if you are afraid of the eight-legged creatures. According to Digital Spy on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013, Eric Reis filmed this footage of thousands of spiders, that are seemingly floating in mid-air, as he was leaving a friend’s engagement party in Brazil.

Re: F.O.G.
Found this late last night
it was a Wow moment This is just a snip-it great study if you have a few
Follows our synchronicity theory

A COSMIC PULSE? Does the Universe have a Heart Beat?
[UPDATE] I PUBLISHED THIS ARTICLE JUST HOURS BEFORE THE MASSIVE JAPANESE EARTHQUAKE. YES IT TOO CONCURRED WITH A HYPER-DAY.
The continuing confirmation of my Tzolkin Cycle Hyper-Day and mega-phenomena correlation hypothesis has emboldened me to consider issuing announcements of upcoming Hyper-Day Windows. For those not familiar with my work on Tzolkin Cycle Hyper-Days a quick brief follows.
While tracking the Tzolkin Cycle I discovered that certain days seemed to buzz with an extra intensity. People seemed more to be more on edge and the overall activity of the day was marked by hyper-activity of sorts—hence the term Hyper-Day.
My understanding of Tzolkin cosmology had led me to conclude that the Tzolkin cycle was the mark of a very deep ordering (subtatomic) and cyclical property of the cosmos.

Hyper-Day Characteristics and Effects
The following terms are apt descriptors of hyper-day events, effects and moods.
Activating
Boil over
Agitating
Tipping Point
Breaking Point
Catalyzing
Hyper-Active
Erupts
Exceptional
Intense
Explosive
Frenetic
Some of you may even feel the Hyper-Day effect on your body and mind. You may feel especially energetic, agitated, have a difficult time falling asleep or wake up sooner than normal. If you have small children you will see them extra active and more easily agitated. People are more likely to “act out” or “lose it” on hyper-days.
The same goes for animals. In fact a soon to be released study will show that animal attacks are more common on HD’s. Health issues such as headaches and migraines may flare up. Electrical equipment/systems are more apt to fail or malfunction especially if they are already on the brink. Computers may run slower and cell phone reception will fluctuate more widely.
There are other Tzolkin cycle days when one may feel and note similar perceptions and sensations. But one must track the Tzolkin cycle over enough time to determine the exact correlations.

Yes, for your powdered milk, even flour will last for 5-10 years in mylar and O2A's. I consider already ground grain to be mid-term storage 3-10 years.

In mid-February a flaming meteorite, whose shock wave equaled 20 nuclear bombs, streaked across the sky and slammed into the central Russian city of Chelyabinsk. It damaged dozens of buildings and injured hundreds of people. RT went to central Russia to talk with witnesses and scientists and to find out whether the country should get ready for more such phenomena.

Early spring storm breaks Denver cold temperature records

While April may normally be associated with rain showers, Mother Nature sometimes throws us a curveball. Such was the case with the bitter cold temperatures she delivered that broke records over the past 24 hours, two dating back more than 50 years ago.

Denver’s official temperature as measured at Denver International Airport dropped to 9 degrees just before midnight last night. This sets a new record low temperature for April 9, easily besting the previous record of 12 degrees set in 1959.

Additionally, a new record low maximum temperature was recorded yesterday as well. The ‘high’ temperature was 22 degrees, recorded shortly after midnight. The previous record low maximum for April 9 was 27 degrees set in 1973.

As the cold front moved out, the chilly temperatures lingered into the morning of April 10. The mercury at DIA dropped to 6 degrees thus setting a new record low temperature for the date. The previous record was 7 degrees set in 1959.

It is interesting to note that these are the first daily cold weather related records Denver has set in more than two years and the first record low temperatures in three and a half years.

While we have seen plenty of high temperature records, we have to go all the way back to February 8, 2011 when we tied a record low maximum temperature to find one related to the cold. The last time we had a record low temperature was October 10, 2009.

Rat Poison Canisters Washing Up on Kodiak

KODIAK, Alaska—
Residents are being warned after containers that had contained rat poison washed up on a Kodiak beach.

The Kodiak Daily Mirrorsays people are being told not to pick up the aluminum canisters because they could contain residual amounts of aluminum phosphide.

The toxin is used to kill rats and bugs. However, people can experience headaches, nausea, dizziness and difficulty breathing when exposed to even small amounts of the chemical, which is typically used to fumigate grain ships.

From spring 2008 to late 2012, Washington saw more than 100 of the toxic canisters wash up.

The containers have also been found along Oregon's coastline and on Vancouver Island.

Rat Poison Canisters Washing Ashore On NW Beaches
Silver canisters of rat poison are turning up on Pacific Northwest beaches and officials are warning beachcombers not to open them. Pete Springer reports.

People reported seeing the canisters last weekend during a beachcombers fair in Ocean Shores, Washington.

Twenty canisters about ten inches long and three inches in diameter were found.

Officials are warning people not to open any that they find.

Kim Schmanke is with the Washington Ecology Department.

Kim Schmanke: “It’s aluminum phosphide inside and once you pop the top off, it becomes phosphine gas which is highly toxic. It’s meant to kill rats.”

Schmanke says the containers appear to be from China but officials don’t know what ship—or ships—they are from.

Beachcombers from Manazanita on the Oregon coast to Canada have reported finding the canisters.

Anyone who finds one is urged to report its location to the Washington Ecology Department.

Here's another! Queensland, NSW!
Rat poison canisters washing up on beaches
POLICE say a canister of rat poison found on a NSW beach is one of a batch that has been washing up on the Queensland coast since February last year.
The 30cm high metal canisters contain toxic aluminium phosphide, which can be fatal if inhaled or ingested.
A man walking along Salt Beach at Kingscliff, on NSW's far north coast, found one of the containers covered in barnacles and lying on the sand on Friday.
A Hazmat team from Fire and Rescue NSW examined its contents, and police say it is the same as others found on beaches in central Queensland.
Based on the barnacle growth on the canisters, it is believe they have been in the water for some time.
"We believe it's related to the ones washing up in Queensland," Byron Bay Inspector Greg Jago told AAP on Friday.
"It appears they're coming down with the currents."
He warned people to be on the lookout for more canisters and not to handle them but alert authorities.
"We believe the contents are toxic and there is a significant potential risk to anyone who tries to open them.
Inquiries by NSW Police have also revealed that the same canisters have been spotted on beaches in the United States.
Queensland authorities have received reports of the containers being found between Lady Elliot Island and Mabuiag Island, with the most recent being discovered at Zilzie near Rockhampton.
No one seems sure where they are coming from.
Even mild exposure of their contents by inhalation could cause a ringing in the ears, fatigue, nausea and pressure in the chest.

By the evening of yesterday, explosive activity had been almost continuous and produced powerful explosions and loud detonations that continued throughout the night and this morning, before finally merging into lava fountains this afternoon.
The style of this latest eruption was distinctively different from the preceding ones and suggests that Etna is in a period of change:

Yup, it was crazy cold here!! Pretty sure it killed my apricot buds and blooms, but the tree is old and the fruit isn't very pleasant any more. Still, I love when it gives a full bloom.

Didn't realize it had been so long since we broke a record low. Way too many highs have been broken, especially last summer.

Haven't heard about this until now...

NASA and JAXA's GPM Mission Takes Rain Measurements Global

As anyone who has ever been caught in a sudden and unexpected downpour knows, gaps still exist in our knowledge about the behavior and movement of precipitation, clouds and storms. An upcoming satellite mission from NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) aims to fill in those gaps both in coverage and in scientists' understanding of precipitation.

The Global Precipitation Measurement, or GPM, mission will set a new standard for precipitation measurements from space and it's doing so by joining forces with countries around the world, keeping not just one satellite's weather eye on the horizon, but nine.

"We need virtually continuous observation everywhere to construct a complete picture of precipitation around the globe, and that requires a lot of resources," said Arthur Hou, GPM project scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. "Precipitation does not recognize national boundaries. It is in the best interest of every nation to pool resources together to make the best possible measurements through partnership."

NASA’s TRMM Satellite Sees Cyclone Victoria Being Blown Apart

Tropical Cyclone Victoria is now a remnant low pressure area in the Southern Indian Ocean after running into strong wind shear that has been tearing the storm apart. When NASA’s TRMM satellite passed over the storm on April 12 it saw limited areas with moderate rainfall pushed far from the center of circulation.

NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency’s Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite captured fading rainfall rates in dissipating Cyclone Victoria on April 12, 2013 at 0748 UTC (3:48 a.m. EDT). Wind shear has torn the storm apart and TRMM spotted limited areas where rain was falling at a rate of 30 mm (1.18 inches) per hour, pushed southeast of the center of circulation.

On April 12 at 0300 UTC (April 11 at 11 p.m. EDT) the Joint Typhoon Warning Center issued their final warning on Victoria. At that time, Tropical Cyclone Victoria was located near 23.1 south latitude and 106.1 east longitude, about 445 nautical miles (512 miles/ 824 km) west of Learmonth, Australia. Victoria has moved south-southeast at 21 knots (24.8 mph/38.8 kph). Although Victoria’s maximum sustained winds were near 35 knots (40 mph/ 64.8 kph), it has moved over cool waters and is being battered with strong wind shear. Victoria is expected to fully dissipate in the next day.

Astronomers at the European Space Agency have watched a hitherto-dormant black hole wake and gorge upon a nearby substellar object the size of a “super Jupiter”, a months-long feasting that consumed a tenth of its mass. The sudden flaring of the black hole – believed to have a mass around 300,000 times that of our Sun – came after several decades of inactivity, the ESA said, but is a timely example of the appetite the super-dense anomalies can have.
Scientists expect a supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way to flare in a similar way, potentially as soon as this year.hmmmmm
