Routine testing at Redstone creates unusual radar patterns
Redstone Arsenal, Ala.- On Tuesday routine tests were being conducted at Redstone’s airfield. During these tests RR-188 (chaff) was dropped from aircraft. This chaff showed as an anomaly on local weather screens as weather conditions caused it to linger longer than normal.
This substance is commonly used by the military in training and testing operations.
There are no known environmental effects caused by RR-188.
“Redstone is committed to ensuring environmental stewardship while balancing that with our critical missions to support the war fighter,” said COL John S. Hamilton, Garrison commander.

Was wondering if they were testing something.
Well, that answers that.
One question...If it's so routine how come we've never seen that pattern before?

Local TV station had collected some of that material and showed it on the news. I think it was WAFF 48. What makes it creepy is ever since that anomaly we have had fighter jets patrolling daily. We sit on the back porch and have coffee every night and see them flying their circle around Huntsville.

That's something I haven't seen before, wild! I have been watching weather cycles and studying radar for quite awhile and have followed dutch and his findings. Some are very legit and others are speculative. That signature is radiating frequency in all directions yet doesn't show on surrounding ports, which leads me to believe it isn't something being picked up but something being directed!

Luis or d bert had a post on extreme weather for the east coast in about 7 days from now,we'll see what transpires.

28,000 lightning strikes
An electrical that swept across Finland on Thursday brought rain, gusty winds and around 28,000 lightning strikes.
The Finnish Meteorological Institute named the storm "Elviira", and according to Yle Meteorologist Toni Hellinen it was the biggest storm of its kind in Finland this century.

Western and central parts of the country were hardest hit with busts of wind in some areas measured at up to 33 metres per second. Even so, no serious storm damage was reported.

The former lightning strike record for a single 24-hour period was set in August 2010 during a storm that caused an estimated 24,000 cloud-to-ground hits. The all-time record in Finland is the 40,000 lightning strikes seen on June 29, 1988.

Hellinen is forecasting milder weather for Friday. Southern and central regions can expect mostly sunny skies. Northern areas are likely to be cloudy with the chance of some scattered showers.

Temperatures in southern and central regions should top 25C and be around 20C in the north.

I need to keep an eye open as I did not see the fighter jets yet. Hmmm, not sure I would know one if I saw it in the sky. Lol. Sad, I know, just not up-to-date on aircraft. What time of day do you see them, and I will start looking up over this way? (North East side)

Is Arctic Permafrost the "Sleeping Giant" of Climate Change?
by Dr. Tony Phillips for NASA Science News
Huntsville AL (SPX) Jun 27, 2013

"The Arctic is critical to understanding global climate," says Miller. "Climate change is already happening in the Arctic, faster than its ecosystems can adapt. Looking at the Arctic is like looking at the canary in the coal mine for the entire Earth system."

Over hundreds of millennia, Arctic permafrost soils have accumulated vast stores of organic carbon - an estimated 1,400 to 1,850 billion metric tons of it. That's about half of all the estimated organic carbon stored in Earth's soils.

In comparison, about 350 billion metric tons of carbon have been emitted from all fossil-fuel combustion and human activities since 1850. Most of the Arctic's sequestered carbon is located in thaw-vulnerable topsoils within 3 meters of the surface.

But, as scientists are learning, permafrost - and its stored carbon - may not be as permanent as its name implies. And that has them concerned

# FAST WARNING 'PRESTO' MESSAGE from the SIDC (RWC-Belgium) #
#--------------------------------------------------------------------#
ACE detected a shock in the solar wind at 13:53 UT on June 27, probably due
to some unidentified CME. The solar wind speed jumped from about 380 km/s
to around 460 km/s, and has currently decreased again to 405 km/s. The IMF
jumped from 3 to 8 nT, and has subsequently further risen to 12 nT. Under
these conditions, and combined with the effects of a recurrent coronal hole
high speed stream, there is a chance for active up to major storm
geomagnetic levels on June 28. Quiet to active geomagnetic levels are
expected for June 29.
