Hey Gomez you around?

If anyone has a good look at the moon tonight can you tell me if you see anything off on the lower right hand side by the dark shadow. I am seeing a second dark circular blotch which I have never seen before. I am a moon watcher in general, but my eyesight is not always the best so thought I just was seeing something due to the glare. I had my friend and adult daughter take a look and they are seeing it too. They both were a little freaked out and they are not GLPers or doomers in any way or form. I have some high powered military binoculars but can't find them. I guess they are still packed from the move. Very frustrating because I would like to get a closer look regardless if it is normal or not.

Hi V, I was on my way to bed and remembered your post, got the binoculars and looked, had to come back in to post this. It looks to me like there is an almost full disk (waning) penumbra (shadow) over the moon. The outer rim is brighter, inner portion...shadowed, like something is eclipsing it slightly, I'm not sure if its earth's shadow being cast on the moon or not as it does seem the earth is between the moon and sun. Anyway, there's my report from the field, lol.

Thank you Isis One for the post. My daughter was out just a little while ago with the dogs before going to bed and she called me out to look. It was still there, but a little clearer tonight. We laughed because to us it looked like someone took some clippers and just snipped a little piece or notch off the end of the corner. Not much, but enough to be noticed. I do realize the moon is waning but there is not a smooth edge to it at the bottom right corner. Again, it may be normal, we have just never seen it like that before. The shadow edge had always been clear and defined and not notched at the corner. Anyway, I would be interested in finding out why this happens. Guess I will do some research. :)
