That bothered me more than most stuff posted about some "something" going to happen. There has been so much out there that it just makes you wonder what it will be.

I can tell you that they are not being given out here in NW GA. I have 2 boys in elementary school and there is nothing that has been sent home or anything about this. Could be for the drill coming up. I personally wouldn't have a problem if they did hand them out at my kids school and talked to them about disaster prep. They only do tornado and fire drills. I have talked to the head staff and questioned them about eq drills several times over the past 3 years but nothing yet. I do teach my kids about it and even the cub scout pack that I am the cub master for. Be Prepared, that's the cub scout moto. Then of course there is this in the news.

Well said and thank you for the update in your area. Yes, I think ALL children should have mini BOB's in their backpacks carried with them at all times. We live in a crazy world and our kiddos need to know what to do in an emergency.

Children's BOB's should include:
1 bottle of water
2-4 protein bars
2-4 bags of trail mix
1 N-95 face mask
1 whistle
1 mini LED flashlight
1 cheap rain poncho ($1-2 bucks and take up little room)
1-2 hand warmers (if you live in a cold area)

The above takes up little room and can be put in the bottom of their backpacks. For older kids with lockers - which means they usually live further away, a small draw-string pack should be left in their lockers with double the water and food. Each child should know the route to walk home or where you will meet them. Never assume your car will be working.

Each car should have 2 liters of water, 3 days of emergency food, and in addition to the above:

Lighters and or waterproof matches
Fire starters
Mini water filter or filter straw
Knife
If you life in cold areas, blankets or even throw an old sleeping bag in there. Make sure everything is in a sturdy backpack. This backpack should be small. You are only trying to get home and should not draw attention to you having a lot of stuff when others have none. This is important. You want to fade away and not be seen.

When the weather turns cool here we swap out the gear in the trunk for cold weather.

I forgot to mention, any water stored in your vehicles in plastic containers should be rotated MONTHLY to keep the toxins from the plastics building up too much due to the hot temps of most trunks and vehicles.

WA--thanks for this!! You mentioned it when my daughter not homeschooling and while I missed a few things...and I added socks and unders....I was happy I did this. Now that we homeschool...she still has a backpack and I keep this ready to go! Will add appropriate updates as it makes a good go-go bag in case of tornado, car breakdowns and other more frequent calamities as well!!
