Sometimes people are just like that, they do weird stuff.

Is she unusually thirsty? It might indicate some sort of diabetes related issue.

Apple juice has the same effect as Coffee I believe.

She might be suffering from the 'Terrible Threes' where kids 2-3 years old generally act badly...

Sorry if I wasn't any help...

I don't believe little kids act badly.

She's probably feeling insecure for whatever reason.

Maybe she knows there's another baby on the way.

She might be feeling jealous of the potential newcomer.

Enlist her help in preparing for baby so she feels like she's part of the process :)

Re: 3 years old daughter not sleeping HELP!!!
average age a baby will start to sleep through the night is about 6 weeks.

Heres what you do...

tell your 3 year old that she will not be having the cup at night anymore , let her know that she is to big for it anymore and you will have to put it in the bin, then tell her that because she is a big girl now that she can stay up a whole 5 minutes more.
When she wakes up in the middle of the night , remind her that she is a big girl now and doesnt need the cup and Mummy and daddy are asleep and you will see her in the morning and go back to bed and DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES GO BACK until the morning.
At the age of three this prolly wont take long at all

She will kick and sceam over the new change, but perseverance will win, its just who will going to perservere longer you or her

And dont worry she wont die nor will you, and as parents we all do the same thing...they are smarter than us, ya know

Re: 3 years old daughter not sleeping HELP!!!
I just read that most children iodine intake is to low make sure she is getting her dose of iodine . let her have a nite light put a sippy cup of water near her bed so she can have a sip or make sure she is really hydrated during the day. take her weigh ,divide by 2. What ever the number turn to ounces of water she needs to have during the day. there are good advice on the internet check some other sites for parents.just keep on insisting that she go to bed ,after the first time she up don't talk just put her to bed she'll finally get the message. check out iodine4health.org

^ nice plug.

What's the harm in sending a child to bed with a 'skippy' cup of water?

At least she won't have to keep getting up to ask for it!another do

Re: 3 years old daughter not sleeping HELP!!!
Children the age of your daughter will get up at night if they have been allowed to sleep too much (nap too long) during the day.

They will also get up at night if they do not get enough exercise during the day.

Chocolate and pepsi/coke are stimulants so eating chocolate or drinking sodas during the day can keep her up at night.

I would also be sure that she has a "regular" bedtime. She should be put to bed at the same time each night.

She should not be put to bed any earlier than about 7:00 or 7:30 p.m.

A warm bath with lavendar bath salts before bed also helps young children sleep. Lavendar is a natural sleep inducer.

So I would recommend:

1. Shorter naps during the afternoon

2. More exercise outside in the fresh air each day

3. Eating chocolate less often and not so much each time and not in the evening and less pepsi/coke and never any soda pop in the evening

4. Have a regular bedtime that you follow each night

5. Follow a regular evening routine (that is always the same) where the last thing you do is give her a warm bath

Good luck.

Re: 3 years old daughter not sleeping HELP!!!
Remember old fashioned warm milk at bedtime? Why don't you make a big production of her getting a small cup of warm milk or cocoa at bedtime with you and mom? Her special time alone with you two. Tell her it's what big girls do. Maybe set a timer and tell her that's HER time to tell you whatever she wants to say. If you want a close relationship later, you need to start now, not someday when you suddenly notice she's growing up.

Re: 3 years old daughter not sleeping HELP!!!
I can't believe this, you asked a question on how to get a 3 year old to sleep at night, and 20 people replied from this nutbar conspiracy forum responsibly without at least somebody suggesting something stupid like a beer, or start them young on melatonin or something like that.

Wow, I thought GLP wasn't capable of it, kudos :)
