Ontario Power Generation is investigating how the accident happened and officials say hourly tests of the lake water show that the level of tritium – the radioactive isotope of hydrogen – poses no harm to nearby residents. The spilled water contained 0.1 per cent of the plant's allowable monthly release of tritium, said OPG spokesman Ted Gruetzner. |

In light of what we are witnessing in Japan, there is no rationalization for Ontarians to accept the peril and bloated expense of nuclear power plants. This $32 billion could buy 16,000 1.5 megawatt natural gas generators that cost approximately $2 million per megawatt to build, which could be distributed throughout the province. This would produce 24,000 megawatts of electricity, much more than Darlington and plenty to service Ontario’s needs. [link to www.thestar.com] |
