Share your tips on being FRUGAL!!!
Just thought it would be helpful if we started a thread with tips on being frugal in this tough economy.

I am trying to reform my spending habits and look forward to learning what all of you do to make ends meet and still have a little extra at the end of the month!

Thanks!

Need the buzz but hate the $7 per 11 ounce bag for coffee? Twin bag some tea. Just take the bags out after 8 minutes so the tannic acid doesn't make the tea nearly undrinkable.

100 tea bags for $1.99 (or less) on sale somewhere every week.

Set your AC to no lower yhan 78 degree's (use ceiling fans)

Wash plates and glasses by hand, save the dishwasher for large items (pots and pans) and wait till it's full before you wash.

I do alot of canning from the garden and mason jars are expensive new - I have grabbed quite a few at garage sales and thrift stores for very cheap.

I usually get paper products (TP and paper towels) at the dollar store for cheap.

I have tried to tell friends how I am able to save money
and they are not interested. I had a coupon for $15 off
of a $15 purchase at a store one of my friends shop and
he was not interested when I offered to give it to him.
I have told other friends about specific cash incentives/promotions.
They act like they can't be bothered to make the extra effort
to pocket an extra $100.

Finally, I quit trying to share my expertise in financial matters
and now when I hear my friends complain about not having any money,
I just yawn.

USE WOOD INSTEAD OF CHARCOAL FOR BBQ ING.
I HAVE A BULLIT CHOPPER, AND I LIKE TO GRIND PLAIN OATS TO A POWDER, AND ADD TO MY PANCAKE MIX. IT IS GOOD FOR YOU, AND IT MAKES THE MIX GO A LOT FARTHER.

A guy once told me he would dump his girlfriend
right before Christmas so he wouldn't have to
buy her a gift... then would make up with her
after New Year. It was the most petty thing
I had ever heard and he was soon written out
of my life's script.

If anyone here listens to Dave Ramsey...
he is always saying how spendaholics always
try to outearn their stupdity.

So, it was hard to keep a straight face when
a broke friend of mine recently said he would rather
try to earn extra money than reduce his spending.

Re: Share your tips on being FRUGAL!!!
Turn off the cable tv, call around to lower your car insurance, shop at Aldi's or whatever cheap store is around you for your basics, use the dollar store for personal and paper products, plan a route when you run errands and save them til you have a bunch. Use coupons which you can find on the computer, stop buying junk food, beer and cigarettes; there is no better time than now to stop those habits. Buy extra when items are on sale. Stop eating out and forget about going to a movie, make a movie night at home complete with popcorn and candy. You won't miss the crying baby or the talker at all. Best of all, you can pause the movie when you need to.
If spring ever decides to make an entrance, plant a garden and make it big. Freeze and can extra's to help get through the coming winter.
And if you still have a house phone and cell phone, get rid of the house phone. Brown bag it for lunch and fix your drink before you leave the house instead of stopping to buy one. Turn down the heat and turn up the air conditioner. Our Sam's club gas station is always 10 cents a gallon cheaper than everyone else in town too.
Use your common sense and you can come up with lots of ways to save.

Re: Share your tips on being FRUGAL!!!
Well I was always afraid to do it but I just recently started cutting my own hair. I usually paid 15 bux every few weeks but now I pay zero:) I use the clippers on my hair(#4 on top, #3 on the sides) and its super easy to do. Even fixing up the back and sides is very easy to do but sometimes the left side is a little tricky if your right handed. I had no choice because the price of gas was killing me.

POWER STRIPS WITH ON/OFF SWITCH

Plugged-in stuff leeches power 24/7.

Group all plugged-in devices in each room by 2 power needs:

1) Always ON (clocks, fridge, etc...)

2) Only needs power when you use it. (tv, stereo, items with power supplies like xbox, etc...)

Leave group 1 plugged in.

Put group 2 on shared power strips that you can turn off.
lifes easier when you keep those switches in reach too, by the way.
