I do, it's a 1992 Ford F-250 with all mechanical injection, nothing electronic makes it run. It's a 5 speed 7.3 diesel. I can start it, take the battery out and it keeps running. Anyone else have anything like this?

a 92 ford anything is not EMP proof

ECU still controls ignition timing

ummm, do you know anything about diesel engines? There is no ignition. Mechanical injection, no spark plugs. Do some research.

Don't worry about travel. Worry about survival. You will be stuck once shtf in place. Beyond your doors lies a war zone where all that exists is a struggle for resources. Hunker down. Stock up.

No...But I sure wish I did..have been aware of this for a long time now...hard to find these vehicles..unless you buy old with a lot of miles and redo engine. But as OP suggests...this is VERY VERY important for what is about
to come....

They are VERY hard to find now, I picked mine up off craigslist in PHX about 2 years ago for $4400. Back then they were plentiful, but my dad just bought one and it took him 2 months of looking to find one. People are buying these up like crazy. I don't know if they're buying them for the same reason that I am or not, but anyways, here's a list of the years that will work. Ford 7.3 idi diesel, any year UP to 94, but not the 94.5 because they have a computer controlled injection setup. Dodges anything up to 98, again, 98.5 are no good because they went to computers. The GM trucks up to the late nineties will work also, but the engines are junk. Good luck in finding one.

That's a good choice. And for the others that say people will try to steal it, I already have everything ready to load and get out. Max time 2 hours to leave with everything I need. I will also have 5-6 other guys in the bed with AR-15s ready to go. I don't believe that within 2 hours mass panic will set in. My bug out location is only 2 hours driving time away with no towns in between.

I read somewhere that hanging a chain off the hitch of your vehicle, the chain to touch the ground will protect it. I would suppose that would be for the chain to be sitting on dirt and not bouncing that chain along the interstate.

Don't forget the survivalist 2 tank rule. You bug-out camp needs to be at least 2 tanks of fuel away from the closest metropolis. Once the starving hordes start pouring out of the city it's unlikely many will have more than one tank of fuel.

Again, my bol is 2 hours driving time away from the nearest town, on our land. I have 140 gallons ready at any time, to go about 2000 miles. I also have a bol in Colorado, about 10 hours away, don't know if I could get there, but if I have an advance warning to get away, that's where I'll be. But true, not many people have their vehicle sitting in their driveway completely full, especially at today's gas prices, most probably have a half a tank, if that. If an emp were to ever hit, it would be SOOOO catastrophic. Read "one second after" if you like reading, it will blow your mind about what an emp would really be like.

A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. †.

Sorry to burst your bubble .

1992 ford has fuel injection .

taking out your battery while it runs destroys your alternator quickly..

your computer brain box/ electronic ignition module will fry if a large EMP hits . You need a points ignition system / pre electronic ignition and you would need extra sets of points because they would burn out when the emp hit..

fuel pump is electronic, as it does not run off the crank. Oh yeah and if a emp hits your crank sensor will fry and so will the glow plugs ..

Yup, got three. One is a fast trimaran sailboat, no power needed. Two, a couple of fine bikes. Ultimately, bikes may be your best bet. An average person can cover over 60 miles a day. Do get a trailer for them or good bags though.
 Quoting: sailormon 1350164

Defo recomend a trailer, a mono wheel articulated which hitches to the rear axle is a good transporter for all terrain when hooked up to an mtb.

True, bikes may be good, but I can hold 140 gallons of diesel in my tanks and go over 2400 miles with them full.

You will have to expect roadblocks and roving bands of people who will steal your fuel and vehicle.

A bike makes so much more sense, as you will be able to hide it and yourself in an instant if there's trouble.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but NO, it does not have electrical injection, it's ALL mechanical through an injection pump that is powered by a pulley from the engine. there is NO electronic ignition module in a 7.3 idi.5a
