A lot of people have had success with the food grade diatomaceous earth.

Mane n Tail shampoo and conditioner. It's the bomb for making your hair thick.

They have it at most Walgreens in the shampoo section, and at walmart, in the pet section.

It was originally made for horses, but is safe for human use, and it works well.
 Quoting: Oubliette

It works very well!
Also try gelatin and bone broth(google for tasty recipes).
Bald is cool but not for everyone.
Good luck OP.

Yes, OP, the is!

Many posters have given great suggestions here, and if you are uncertain, do a Google search on what you aren't familiar with. Vitamins and MINERALS are a must, and as another poster said, Vitamin D3.

One other poster mentioned Diatomaceous Earth. This is God's gift to us, it's organic, and cheap, and does many good things for the body, including very good for skin, nails and hair! It is VERY rich in Silica, which is deficient in most of our foods, and soil. What the body doesn't need is excreted, so you don't have to worry about getting too much of it stored in the body.

Take the time to read all the posts on this thread, and all the links given by contributing posters are well worth taking the time to read. Or, do a Google search on this rich mineral to see how great this is!

I don't know, folks -- sounds like a lot of wishful thinking and smoke and mirrors going on here. When I was younger and ate little more than candy and potato chips, I had the most gorgeous hair anyone could imagine -- thick and wavy and long. The older I get, the thinner and less lustrous my hair gets, even though my diet now is 100% organic and is rich in all the food groups (vitamin, minerals, etc.). I had thick hair until I was in my 40s, and that was that. Thinning hair, for most people, is hormonally related and also due to environmental radiation (from, for instance, sitting in front of a computer screen all day).

For younger people, the environment is a huge culprit in the general deterioration of hair thickness. For those of you who are old enough, compare young people's hair today with what you remember about young people's hair, say 20 or 30 years ago. Hair dye plays a part in destroying the natural oils and contributing to premature fall-out, but I think it's even more than that going on. When I was growing up, I remember seeing girls with hair so thick, it would stand out a few inches from their back, but you don't see that anymore. Just compare people's hair from 1970's and 1980's TV shows, and you'll see what I mean.

Re: is there a natural way to get hair thick? ( lost it due to stress 3 years ago)
OP, I'm a 52yo woman and I recently had to spend many hours and evenings researching this topic.

My lovely ob/gyn switched me to a hormone pill (after I'd complained about how expensive the product he had me on was) and that, plus some unbelieveable stress, left me with bald patches which I could not cover with hair styles. Lovely, eh? I had such overwhelming heat flashes my hair folicles switched themselves around and I had areas where my hair I had left was growing the other way.

I'm so relieved to tell you that I have fixed my problem and have loads of short hairs growing so even though I don't have much of it in length, at least the scalp is covered and I again have 'fluff' instead of total flat.

I went to a doctor who did a saliva test NOT a blood test to figure out my hormones. Wasn't even expensive.

That showed my adrenals were totally out of whack - and the drugs the other damn doctor had me on were totally setting me up for female cancers and I was deficient in one hormone and the thyroid needed some help.

I'd bet anything you need DHEA and a mild thyroid stimulant, along with 5,000 vit D, plus other vitamins others have mentioned.

I wash my hair with peppermint oil soap only. You need wash every day.

I sometimes put some drops of copper peptide on my scalp. I believe that is very important. Google it. I massage my frickin' scalp. I take a hair/nails biotin supplement. I'd be taking a calcium/mag/potassium too. And loads of B vitamins.

Stress (including environmental stress) produces cortisol which overloads the thyroid so the adrenals cannot properly make hormones. And yer off. So you have to start with helping the body manage the stress chemicals.

I'm impressed with some of the excellent answers you've received.

Print these answers. There's some good ones here. Sorry about the idiots.

1351499,

I have a challenge for you, and anyone else interested!
Go online and find yourself one of those free calorie counters to do this test. Here is a good one, [link to sparkpeople.com.] Keep track of all of those healthy foods you are eating. When you set up the Nutrition part, don't stop at just calories, carbs fats and proteins, click on to add all of the essential nutrients they have to pick from. This will leave you with one of those Ah HAH moments.
One day you might be lucky to be in range for 'manganese", but most days it might be lacking. This is just one example.
Doing this was a wake up call, to take a good variety of vitamins, MINERALS (vitamins don't get very absorbed without minerals!), Vitamin D3, etc.
What woo hoo going on is our soil is very depleted of the rich nutrients it once offered!

One of the reasons several of us are posting about DE ( Thread: Has anyone tried Diatomaceous Earth? is because it is a very dense organic mineral, even has over 14 trace minerals in it, all from our awesome Creator, no chemicals (Food Grade). If used correctly, it detoxes our machines, gently, allowing our bodies to be able to finally use ALL of these vitamins and minerals to it's fullest, and then enabling healing in the organs. You can't beat this with a stick, especially for the price.

eat right and exercise HARD

i'm 45, and have been bald for about 20 years, but since i started interval training my hair is actually starting to grow back.

too late for me now though, too many dead follicles, but you're young enough it might be worth a try.

PS... USE SOY in your TEA... not MILK!

Don't know why, but black tea mixed with Soy causes around a 70% reduction of DHT... mixed with Milk it INCREASES DHT by 30% or so...

The Black Tea somehow acts with whatever it's mixed with to screw with testosterone levels

so if you use milk and are DHT sensitive it will fall out FASTER, SOY
 Quoting: superdave

I think that's the key! In England they consume lots of black tea with milk and yet lots of males are bald. I remember from a forum that the beneficial effects of minerals and plants, that reduce hairloss, is completely mitigated by drinking milk and coffee. Milk as a whole is not good for consumption by adults (just for infants and kids), but that's another discussion.

Finely mince onion and garlic (equal proportions) together in a blender until there are no more traces of solid.

Gently put this mixture on the damaged scalp making sure you don't pull the hair strands as you apply it on your scalp. This mixture is very sticky.

Leave for as long as you can, preferably sleep over it. You will notice that your sleep will be very deep, with plenty of dreams.

If you have moringa oleifera available, then it will be better if you mix it with the garlic and onion. Again, in equal proportions.

There's a lot if ingredients in any shampoo.
 Quoting: Oubliette

Okay, yes, I'll be more specific. There are many chemical ingredients in Mane and Tail that I would personally avoid.

Also, I highly doubt any non-medicated shampoo can help make hair grow back thickly.

It contains a lot of waxes which can make hair appear thicker.

I don't know if that's true. It's what I think from a quick google search.

For me, scalp massage, nutrition and gravity boots for growing hair back.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1317176

Yes, the waxes make your existing hair appear thicker. That's going to help the OP a lot. And I don't know how, but it makes your hair grow fast. I had super short hair six months ago, and it's nearing my shoulders now.

Massage your scalp while shampooing, OP. And get some skin, hair and nails vitamins from Walgreens.
 Quoting: Oubliette

B careful,
Your skin is like a second stomach...whatever you put on your hair and skin...your body will have to process....I wouldn't rub it into your skin and nails if it has chemicals...especially if you're looking for a natural remedy. Be careful with chemicals....don't wanna go gettin cancer and stuff

OP,

You can also read up on Biotin on low carb sites and message boards. People who lose weight too fast often have hair falling out in clumps as the body adjusts. That is how I first heard of it years ago. My hair dresser was suspicious at first, but now she swears by it.

Good luck.

Re: is there a natural way to get hair thick? ( lost it due to stress 3 years ago)
Hey OP, I feel your pain. From the day that I noticed heavy shedding to the last hair out was 13 days. I was mortified and unable to tell anyone for over a month. Processing, wasn't happening...so,the long short of it... my cortisol level was elevated continually. A normal stress response is: stress episode -- in response, the adrenal gland releases the hormones needed to assist you in this temporary situation, then levels return to normal. However, continuous high levels of cortisol will reduce the size of hair follicle plug thus, hair is easily shed. My hair grows back a 1/2 inch or so before falling out.

The consensus from my dr's is that my cortisol levels became elevated due to a period of stressful events, without recovery between events. Without the down time, the adrenal gland, continues to kick out the stress hormones plus one. Long term, the adrenal becomes easily agitated and responds with overkill. The process for the adrenal gland to normalize is different for everyone depending upon daily stress, illnesses in family, friends, etc.... Today, 2.5 years later, my cortisol level is almost normal, but, does increase with any kind of mild - moderated stress event. The important thing... is that for first year, levels were consistently high without significant decrease and now the highs and lows have a huge range.

Hair loss is hard. I had always had long healthy hair and then booommm, the doooomm did arrive.

keep up your chin... Here are the products/treatments that have helped me.

9-1-1 Stress Control by Kingbio, a homeopathic spray twice a day. This has done wonders - if I miss several - I can feel the surge of cortisol. Cleaning scalp everyday is sooo important. The cortisol elevated my body temp slightly, plus I wore a baseball cap everyday which only held in the heat. This was not helpful as the heat damaged and altered the actual texture, growth pattern, and thickness of the new growth. Additionally, I have a full body acupuncture treatment every three weeks. Be patient and try to let the things you can't control.. go. and remember...

"your awesomeness is shining"

Now, my head of hair never looked better... my daughter, cut her hair and had it made into the most gorgeous hand wefted human hair wig ever! How blessed am I!
Hope some of my suggestions might be of some help to you!

Just remember that it is male hormones that cause male pattern baldness. Not really a bad thing.
 Quoting: Bluebird

See this its usual for a man to lose even some hair by 30.
More than 50% have some baldness by then even though they try to hide it.
It starts at about 18.
Men who have full fluffy heads of hair generally are more female like than men they have more female hormones.
Like the men who cant grow much body hair, in their genes its more female like than male.
