Quoting: PENGSurprised we don't here more of these stories. Makes me wonder why immigrants still flock to those places, I mean, cmon ! Why dont they immigrate to the mid west or Wyoming or Colorado, Why do immigrants still go to these run down cities in droves? Detroit, Philly, St Louis, Dallas, Houston, New York, etc, etc... This I dont understand. St. Louis IS the Midwest. And there's nothing in Wyoming. Economic opportunity is in big cities and big metro areas. Im sorry, I meant, White bread and potato rancher midwest, like Kansas, Nebraska, etc, Much of Cheyenne Wyoming looks like its still stuck in the 70s, but its growing ! Quoting: Dried Up HagYeah - I get your point....let me ask you a question, though. Have you ever been jumped by a gang and beaten or terrorized within an inch of your life? When something like that happens to you, you begin to consider the wisdom of not waiting around for your politicians to act on your behalf and just finding a way to protect yourself. Sounds lame, I know. But a weapon is a VERY effective deterrent of crimes against your person. YES...I grew up in NYC and Boston. I grew up in big cities and lived off and on in minority majority neighborhoods. You bet your ass I've been jumped. My point was guns aren't the only answer and aren't really the ultimate required solution. While I agree with your thoughts, to a degree, I've yet to see an ultimate solution put into action. Until then, I think people have a right to defend themselves against the violence by whatever means necessary. I DIDN'T SAY THEY DIDN'T. Too bad we're such pussies as a society though. When did we become so soft? Why are we so soft? I honestly don't know what the answer is though. I really don't. What kind of legislation will fix everything? I can't think of anything wise to suggest. |

Crack, gangs, rap music and illegitimacy began the downfall in the 80's. Black unemployment and illegitimacy rates were very much on par with whites throughout the 70s'. |
