Lemme guess, your friend is part of the most wortless group of Americans this great country has ever seen. That would be the 18 to 35 year olds.

Truly, anyone who wastes their life trying to get ahead in this rat race, chasing artificial dreams, will end up being the biggest loser of all because they just wasted their entire life slaving away for material satisfaction.

The biggest winners are those who are able to live in the moment regardless of the situation.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1354050

Very true. I know a guy who works at Starbucks and bartends on the weekends. He has a crappy studio apartment but he's always very happy. Has lots of free time to enjoy himself as he only works part time. That's better in his mind than slaving away at some 9-5.

lolsignlolsignlolsign You're joking right? To be president, you have to be at least 35. Don't you know your own Constitution.

How many are CEO's? How many are senators or congressmen?

A handful? ok... and how many of those are filled flower children? 1,000's...

There is your answer.

So you judge how successful someone is based on if they reach a position of corruption, greed, and how many people they've stepped on to get there? Interesting. No wonder your country is going down the shitter.

I run into idiots like this all the time.

It's one thing if the kid is sitting in a basement all day smoking pot.

But, if the guy is actively looking for work and cant find any, then you are just kicking him while he is down, and you're just being an asshole.

I actually appreciate when people kick me when I'm down; it reminds me who I need to kick, and then I make sure to cut those people completely out of my life so that they dont get a chance to do it again.

And, as for the dad in the story here. He sounds like a typical know it all, blue collar, asshole.

While he is bad mouthing the kid who just finished college and cant find work.

In the next breath he'll be saying how much he hates the guy doing well for himself, with a nice car and nice house; that he must of somehow stole all that money cause he doesnt work as a: roofer, in construction/ etc...

I avoid people like this like the plague.

End advice.

Live your life for yourself.

And, appreciate when someone you know is kicking you while you are down. It's them saying that they are a scummy human being, and that you should completely kick them out of your life so that they dont get a chance to do it again.

And I can't disagree that good people need to do something (apologies for not answering that point earlier). However, I think what the good people need to do is sit back and wait for those in power to destroy themselves. Because honestly, active resistance will fail. It'll unite those in power against a common enemy.

However, power corrupts, and those in power want more of it. So they'll fight each other for it, destroying themselves in the process.

Sorry for derailing your thread OP. I'll stop now.

Right now, there is only one job for every six unemployed people.

If every college student got a degree in engineering, there would not be nearly enough engineering jobs for all of them.

There is already an overload of dog groomers, massage therapists and e-bay sellers, going into business for yourself is not always viable.

People who rag on a college student for being unemployed should look at government policies which sent millions of jobs offshore. Maybe they are afraid to face the fact that people they elected screwed the masses in their country.

Degree in political science? Grad degree in Public Admin?

Great, another loser with aspirations of sucking off the taxpayer teet and/or working for lobbyists who value profits over people.

I agree with you dad, not becuase your "friend" is unemployed, but because he chose a field that destroys wealth instead of create it.

Your friend took a route in school that is a step to another, but they require more school, such as journalism, teaching, writing, law. On its own, he should have a focus or goal, ie. does he want to start a non-profit, specialize. Add computer skills, and graphic art, learn to port linux to servers, any number of skills that can actually be done low cost or free online, desktop publishing.

He needs to finetune the market further and with so many jobs not in existence, perhaps start his own business.

This is only based on if he is pushed or nudged to succeed. He may be better off taking any work and getting a good Bug Out Bag ready and learning some tool making and building a few tesla coils and windmills, learning some organic small container gardening.

He may wish to grab any job, convert an old truck to diesel/biofuel, and build his own home on wheels, like this:

[link to www.google.ca]

they fit on the back of pickups.

My father was an idealist/ndp social democrat, yet he still talks the same way about people. You're only value is being a slave, and though he takes trips to mexico he thinks younger generation should be happy to work for low wages and never own a home. His eyes also fog over when he watches the news.
