Just up on the eastern weather forum and that bane of our existance, freerepublic.com.
UNCONFIRMED AT THIS TIME:
It is with heavy heart I write this...
I have finally reconnected with my best friend who is a paramedic who was sent from Georgia 2 days ago to Gulf Port, Mississippi before the hurricane hit.
He just reached me within the last 10 mins via emergency cell phone to tell me he was alive.
Thousands of bodies have been discovered throughout Mississippi in Gulf Port, Waveland,Hancock County,Bay of St.Louis.
They are hanging in trees and they are pulling them out 30 at a time. Entire families found drowned in their homes and washing up on shore.
The stories he could tell me were brief. National Guard is on the scene and arresting anyone seen on the streets.
The numbers are staggering and what I have been told tonight will shake people to their foundation as the numbers will be coming out in the next 24-hours of just how many people have actually perished in these and 3 other beach communities.

Sure. All the older Americans, weak, using walkers, crutches, needing portable oxygen, etc. If their house submerged, they died. Same for young ones...and the really fat ones. |

I have little sympathy for the dead... perhaps I should have more?
I canīt help but feel anyone who died in the storm VOLUNTARILY took their own lives into their hands when they refused to evacuate.
Yes, of course I understand the argument that the poor, who had no means to leave on their own, were at a great disadvantage here.
But I also happen to think that they most likely did NOT die in a "shelter".
More than likely, EVERY dead person in this storm was voluntarily - or, rather, stubbornly - where they were because of their own free will. |

The moral high-grounders and the well-meaning who prayed to save New Orleans may have condemned Biloxi and a host of other small towns and thousands of people to their doom. What was really saved in New Orleans? Lots of office buildings.

Folks now we all know how much we hate freerepublic, but reading through the thread this seems like the real deal, if for no other reason than freerepublic vets their stuff and bans people lickety split if you donīt tow the party line. I was banned there several years ago and only lurk to observe the enemy in action. ;.)
Dude posting claims he has been in cell phone contact with his paramedic buddy, they are writing each progressive number on the bodies forearm, and this should break sometime tomorrow.
Consider this makes sense, up till now rescue has been focused on helping living people, now the hard part comes...

One man interviewed on the news from I think it was Gulfport was at a hospital recovering from surgery and they released him from the hospital due to need for beds
He came back to what was left of his home ( he was 85 years old ) and had he not been in the hospital at the time, as an elderly bachelor alone, he would surely have been in his house at the moment of impact with no way out on his own
Middle class people with two car garages do not realize how many poverty stricken people there are who either do not have functioning cars, money for gas or hotels, nowhere to go, etc
One woman had to go the Superdome for instance as her car had been totaled in an accident the week before. Not everyone has a choice to flee.
Some are defiant īHurricane Partyī types but many are not, just simply too old or too poor

Maybe. Maybe not.
Iīve seen plenty of helicopter flyovers of the area which zoom down to the destruction and I have yet to see "bodies hanging in trees".
With the complete lack of leadership or authority in the area right now, weīre going to say they can magically make thousands of casualties simply disappear from view??
Or is it the evil military censors?
Iīm going to wait on this one.

Give me any modern non linear video editing system and I could rotoscope out ANY dead bodies in trees frame by frame. very easy to do, ask around.

But where do we keep seeing the flyovers? N.O. right. Well what about Mississippi? Where are the flyovers from there. Iīve seen ground crew but not much in the flyovers there. Seems to me they are keeping our attention directed at N.O. and away from what they donīt want known. |

Havenīt you noticed we are seeing the same video footage over and over? Why? Because itīs controlled, and sanitized. If you have trouble believing that, just put Fox news back on and believe everything Hannity and OīReilly tell you, and listen to Rush during the commercials. |

Having seen the film of the aftermath of the asian tsunami I say for a fact that bodies donīt look much like bodies until the camera zooms in close and personal, from a distance they are merely piles of rubbish and driftwood.
Majority of the gulf coast film has been shot from the air and maybe some of that refuse we see is actually bodies. |

Thanks for the sad news Omega.
I can feel my heart breaking in two for these people and their families. This is so sad I can hardly believe it.
I know what itīs like to be poor and Iīve lived and known poorer people than myself. What can you do if you are disabled and cannot drive? If you are broke and cannot afford gas and food, you would be tempted to stay at home where you would feel a little bit safer than walking on the streets without money or shelter!
The poor have died and the living are displaced.

You can only survive about 3 days without fresh water. I fear many will die of dehydration. The heat doesnīt help either.

Iīve been to Gulfport,MS and itīs or wasnīt some run down hole in the wall place. I live in Alabama and watched local live coverage until the power poles broke off outside.
There was miles of million dollar homes, stores condoīs as far as the eye could see.
Thousands of people from NO were staying at Gulfport,Bay St.Louis,Pass Christian. I watch interviews of these out-towners and local residents the day before she hit, they said they felt like it would weaken after hitting LA and it did weaken some, but the storm surge was still as high from her previous CAT 5 status. Even though the high winds had backed off a tad the water was already pushed up and headed to the coast.
The interview with the Gulfport Fire Chief was very sad to watch. He said there was nothing,nothing left, not even a board or a piece of wood, it was wiped clean.

Actually, there have been several areas of Gulfport, Pass Christian, and Waveland that Iīve wanted to see on the news. Have yet to see it. According to the Sheriff in a radio interview, he has been told that there are dead bodies hanging in trees in Hancock county, where Waveland and Bay St Louis are located...and also the Stennis Space Flight Center. Lots of conspiracy stuff happening out there.
If a wave came off the ocean at Gulfport, I wouldnīt expect to find any bodies around Highway 90. I would expect them to wash up around Interstate 10...some three or four miles inland. The land is reasonably flat out to that area...in fact it dips a bit after you move away from the beach. The next barrier is the raised portion of Interstate 10. This highway is higher than the surrounding land, much like most Interstates. Bodies would...I believe...be stopped at this point. So far, no helicopter that I know of has flown this route over Biloxi and Gulfport. Nor have we seen any damage info from around the Navy Construction Battalion base in Gulfport, which is actually set back from the ocean about two blocks. Itīs a huge base.
Disturbingly, this base was sited as a health hazard some years ago for having World War One chemical mustard gas canisters buried under it. These canisters were supposedly leaking. Also, huge storage buildings exist on this base and the rumor was they kept chemical and other dangerous substances there.
The poorer sections of Gulfport are located in North Gulfport. These are black neighborhoods. Turnkey. Redball. And other housing projects located there. Not much protection from the elements IMO. |

Iīve noticed the same thing. Having watched the news from the very beginning, I have a pretty good grasp on the same stories being shown all day long. Why not show some new clips? We need fresh news. Itīs not there.
You know they are not showing you the extent of the damage to Mississippi. The storm surge pushed buildings one mile inland!!!
You know there are dead bodies in the trees. It makes sense and we all remember the power of the Tsumani. If the houses are washed from their foundations...where are the bodies?

I have been to all the southern states. Biloxi, MS was especially beautiful. I saw the big manisons across from the beach. I stayed on the beach when there was a full moon. Wiell never forget it.
I had my first Krisp Creme there.

I could understand why some people in Bay St. Louis might have had a false sense of security. The downtown area is actually many feet above the ocean. Itīs actually one of the highest areas on the coast. Dan Bīs resturant, the Court House, and The Dock of The Bay restuarant were all located there when I lived there. I many times heard people say that Bay St. Louis downtown area was one of the safest places to be. Many of the people I knew would have probably stayed there with this hope in mind. If they did, Iīm certain many of them are dead by now. |
