i have deck rivets mounted into the frame of the house wall and steel hinges on them that i put a long solid steel 2X4 through
that on top of the dead bolt and regular door lock
they are all locked each and every time when entering my home
we never leave the door unlocked
you would have to knock down the entire wall to get through it :)

This kind of city should not exist in the most rich country of the world.
Something is very wrong when you spend billions in arms and do not help this people.

*The murder rate here is worse than those in Newark and St. Louis and New Orleans. It’s even worse than Baghdad’s.
*Flint is so broke that the city can not even afford simple basic safety.
*If you live here you need to be in post Armageddon survival mode at all times, or fall prey to the statistics that will be posted for the 2011 year.

It is so bad, that a reporter for the New York Times came here to do a report on the situation in Flint

A sign taped to the entrance of police headquarters says it all: “Closed weekends and holidays.” Every weekday, the doors are locked at dusk.

It’s not that the cops here are scared; it’s just that they’re outmanned, outgunned and flat broke.

After the door is unlocked and I enter police headquarters, it is easy to see why. There are only six patrolmen on duty for a Saturday night. So broke is Flint that the city laid off two-thirds of its police force in the last three years. The front desk looks like a dusty museum piece.

We leave headquarters and head out into the night. Howe turns up the heat in his Chevy cruiser and switches on the computer.

“That’s something,” I say hopefully. “Some squad cars in Detroit don’t even have computers.”

“Hold on a sec,” he says. “Let it warm up.”

When it does, I see that there are more than 12 runs stacked up, including a kidnapping call that is more than six hours old. A home-invader call is two hours old. A “man with a gun” call is 90-minutes old.

“Sometimes, we don’t get to a call for two days,” he says. Last fall, an elderly couple called after being held up at gunpoint in their driveway. The police arrived on the scene five hours later.

The problem transcends race. The color of any person's skin doesn't determine the content of their heart. I've seen caucasian, hispanic, african-american, asian, and indian folk do great things. I've also stood by and watched as different members of those races rain down chaos and destruction.

Look beyond the color of a person's skin, for fucks sake.
Thats part of whats wrong with the damn world these days. Making assertions about a person based solely upon the color of their skin.

We live 15 minutes away from downtown Flint.
Thought our home wasn't in the threat radius of crime yet.
Woke up this morning and my wife says that someone got into our van this morning.
Some money she had in the middle console for our childrens' school fund-raising event today is missing.
I just thought it might be one of our kids that needed it and would tell us about it after school today...
Well, after checking out my truck I noticed that my GPS had been stolen also.
Checked the van for its GPS.
Yup, that one is gone too!

We've been robbed.
First time in the nine years we've lived here.

Hey fellow Michigander. I remember when Flint was a good place to work and live- like Lansing. People could move there from the U.P. (where I was born) make a living and retire at home. We are talking about 25 years ago, not long at all.

When the owners closed down the iron mine in my home area the equipment was shipped to China. This has all been arranged for a long time.

It's too bad- I love living here and am willing to hang on for as long as I can because of the seasons and the lakes.

Maybe we will be selling carp and zebra mussels to China.
