[204.74.214.194]: why is this IP address making calls to GLP from my computer?

Have you ran "netstat" or "netstat /a" to look for recently active IP connections from processes?

netstat doesn't show what exe/app is doing the connection.

Try using wireshark.

ping -a xxx.xxx.x.xx (the ip)
and find out thr servername then do a dns lookup
find out who it is

Cookies can be poisoned to cause many problems for your system. Application parameters that are stored in cookies, when poisoned, can cause certain attacks to be executed (CSS, SQL injection, overflows, etc...)

The function of netstat IS TO SHOW what processes have an active TCP/IP connection to the net. I am correct. I take it that wireshark is the newer better alternative?

Netstat doesn't do shit other than showing you have active connection to what server.

You have tons of active connection to other servers if you're currently browsing, have your email reader loaded, your messenger, facebook loaded..

It's meaningless.

Wireshark is more accurate, can nail which binary/exe is doing what connection, and you can actually see the binary data in the packets that are being sent and received.

It's a full fledged packet sniffer.

I would say a probing. Run wireshark with outbound only filters for that explicit IP.

Dude, I do use Linux just like everyone else, But my job site doesn't! SO I HAVE to know how to do windows maintenance and keep the system stable enough so the boss is happy.
