God help them if they ever have to write anything without a spell check. It is very embarrassing. I am sure the people in your country are much brighter. I know that they are a lot nicer as I have an Aussie friend. |

Too many of the wrong kind of people were allowed to breed. That is the bottom line for our country today. We are dearly paying for it now in many ways. I really believe that people should have to pass an I.Q. test and have to meet certain requirements before they are allowed to conceive. But alas, it is too late. They are now getting what they deserve. |

The problem is... they vote. People should have to take a "basic knowledge" test to be able to vote. Its not only the lack of "world" knowledge, but these people could not even tell you about our own government. I love to ask young people, what are the 3 branches of our government..... they just stare at me. |

The rest of the world, at least since the Bush criminal regime have an unfavorable view of the U.S. and its people (can't imagine why ) 2) American public education is a disaster, bought and paid for by big business, with the express interest of keeping the electorate uninformed and buying useless crap. 3) We are taught from a young age that you go to school to get into college to get a good job to have a nice life. The narrative is hard to break free from even when you realize it is just a story. One of the effects though is an equation between education and financial gain. The result is if an American student does not believe that given data will result in tangible gain for them they disregard it. 4) There have been comments about the age of the person asked. This is irrelevant. There are well educated and motivated members of every generation. However the majority of every generation is just looking for work and a beer after 5:00p. Take care Last Edited by cetra8 on 04/27/2011 09:46 AM Manage your own affairs that is enough for one life. May your path be free of tyranny. |

The only thing the government should be doing is national defense and it does that quite well although they do waste tons of money. I love to ask young people, what are the 3 branches of our government..... they just stare at me. What do you define as young? I am in my mid twenties now but I could have answered your question, the legislative, the Executive, and the Judicial, when I was 10 for sure and possibly as early as 7. Political discourse has been an interest of mine and several of my friends for many years. Age has nothing to do with it. Your generation whatever it may be is no better than mine. One of the problems that this country has now in terms of wisdom and education is older folks would rather complain about, and smugly feel superior to the youth rather then trying to teach them what they have learned with their wider experience. If you are concerned about the youth please consider mentoring some. You won't be able to do that effectively though as long as you have that attitude. As I said I am in my mid-twenties I am part of mentoring program for teens and I assure you that my kids know the three branches of government. They know the news and more importantly they know how to question what they read and hear. They even know to question me. The youth today has as much potential as you did. The youth have not failed the old. The old have failed the youth. Manage your own affairs that is enough for one life. May your path be free of tyranny. |

It's not the stupidity of the majority, really. There are some truly intelligent individuals and I welcome them with open arms. But what angers me most is that "Who cares?" attitude many (I don't say all) Americans have towards the rest of the world. I mean, really, the whole world doesn't revolve around you guys. You've got a lot of nerve acting like that, seeing as you're a country of immigrants, with only a few hundred years of history. I don't say all Americans are like that, I have some good friends there, but the majority of people that ARE like this really baffle me... It's just sad, really. |

The youth have not failed the old. The old have failed the youth. I consider young 30s and below. And of course your kids are smart, because you are obviously intelligent yourself and have done a great job with them as i have with my kids. But , in my opinion, the vast majority, don't know. And i agree with you, its the fault of parenting... the old have failed the young. |

That aside yes as far as I can tell Americans have no interest in geography and a purely financial interest in education at large. There are reasons for this though that have nothing to do with stupidity. Quoting: cetra81) Most Americans never go abroad. It is too expensive. Take care i am amazed that most of the western countries were able to produce highly trained manpower for almost 300 years. i am amazed usa invented many new technologies despite under rule of tyrannical church. |
