Re: Tuscaloosa Tornado Damage Aerials Video
I noticed a awful lot of forests in the latter part of the video that were destroyed. I was just curious how extensive the damage to the forests were as they might play an important part in the moderation of the weather.

It could be a hot summer, and the earth is parched as a result of there being less shade. Maybe more severe weather in the future as a result of this.

Anyway, maybe it just looks that bad because they were flying over the affected areas.

Yes, and it would be logical to assume focusing on the damage with the camera

I've seem tornadoes suck the paint off of a car, lift it up ad set it down 100 yards from where it was.

I've seen them suck all the water out of a pond, and suck all the leaves off a tree and leave it's branches intact,
I've seen them take a two by four and pin two cows together by impaling them with it.

They are the most frightening thing I've ever experienced, a hurricane is a little wind compared to an f4 or f5.And the worst thing about them is their evil nature of finding the weakest structures to aim themselves at, we've all heard the deal about trailer parks, and it's true.

why you americans make houses out of wood????
I will never understand. IT IS STRUCTURALLY WEAK as hell.

It is Because of price?? some of you will say, but what is the price when you must rebuild your house 3 times in your lifetime because of this type of damage.

Solid concrete and there will be no tornado that will destroy your home and you only need to do it once.

I am really sorry for the people that died there. Peace be with them.

Good lord.........and we thought Japan was a mess. This has got to be the worst outbreak and damage ever. I'd be surprised if the final death toll doesn't surpass that of the 74 outbreak.

Makes one stop and think doesn't it? All we take for granted...

Media has spent more time today, reporting from and on the Royal Wedding...all that airtime should have been spent on our own.

Concrete structures in the Southern USA = mold and mildew. We need air under the house to keep it from rotting out.

It's as if a formation of bombers with an infinite supply of munitions had flown over. That railway bridge says as much as you need to know about the power of that thing.

Thanks for posting OP, my condolences to the families of those whose lives have been shattered.

Went through Althea in '71 and that bastard Yasi. I think we have an advantage because of the work done over the years by the CSIRO and the JCU in advising of our building codes - though older structures get flattened. Those twisters are leaving affected areas looking like a giant game of pickup sticks whereas our cyclones tend to leave larger masses of debris.

Re: Tuscaloosa Tornado Damage Aerials Video
My parents live in Tuscaloosa. They were not hit by the tornado fortunately. Power was restored to their home this morning.

Unfortunately, all the sanitation trucks were destroyed or damaged beyond being operable. A curfew is currently in place. Expect the death count to reach near a thousand or more before its all said and done.

My father said there were three pages of names (4 columns each) in the paper this morning of people missing.

The University of Alabama has dismissed classes for the remainder of the semester.

This is a very sad day for the Great State of Alabama.

they get quakes too, so when the house comes crushing down in one of those your gonna say why you build out of stone or concrete or solid brick. It's six of one and a half a dozen of the other.

Re: Tuscaloosa Tornado Damage Aerials Video
I'm in East Texas and the Tornadoes must have been just getting wound up when they passed through here, BUT, at one time there were 8 twisters confirmed on the ground and about 15 showing on the radar in this county alone.

A tornado went directly over my house and sucked some shingles off and fucked up the trees pretty bad too, and I heard that god awful noise everybody is always talking about. Scared the fuck out of me , and nothing much can do that any more.

There was what could best be described as widespread minor damages in the area and a few big trees taken down, nothing major in that respect.the 'nadoes were all F-1's except for 1 f-3.
It rained 7 inches in under 30 minutes, washed away a shitload of my grass...well, you get the picture. I've been living in tornado country all my life, but I never saw this many tornadoes at one time on the ground in one small area.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1361726

I went through those storms as well..

Scared the shit otta me and grandbabe..

Damn....

I live NE of B'ham, and this is the first time I've seen this video. Truly devastating. My State is gonna take a while to recover from this. When you talk to people from the areas hit hardest, you can see the pain in their eyes. Nearly everyone knows someone who either lost someone or can't find a family member.

I found pieces of houses (paint peeled off in small strips, vinyl siding, parts of window blinds, insulation, shingles) in my yard after it came through. We're a good 15 miles from where the storm passed through.

Some say it looks like a war zone, only war zone that looked like this was Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
