So, you like it? I hear it ends a lot of problems.

Only one solution for this. Do not connect your computer to any type of internet line. if it is offline this would be pretty much a waste

It won't thwart the FBI, but I stumbled upon a neat trick to stop Google ads and Google Analytics, etc., from clogging up my shit.

It's pretty simple:

First, with WinXP go to:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

Where you will find a file named "hosts". If you have a different OS, just search for the "hosts" file and then OPEN IT IN NOTEBOOK.

You should see a line, possibly the only active line there that is:

127.0.0.1 localhost


Just add the following underneath the localhost line above:


127.0.0.1 www.google-analytics.com
127.0.0.1 google-analytics.com
127.0.0.1 ssl.google-analytics.com
127.0.0.1 *.google-analytics.com

127.0.0.1 adwords.google.com
127.0.0.1 pagead.googlesyndication.com

I haven't seen a single ad here ever since, nor on any other pages that use Google Analytics. Pretty simple without downloading Ad-block or whatever.

The neat thing is that this is a GNU project from:

From their sample "hosts" file...basically they continually build a "hosts" file that eliminates tons of sites from accessing your computer. You can download their comprehensive "hosts" file and lock out everything, but I just added the short list above. Those 2 under the Google entries are apparently pretty important. Like I said, I haven't seen an ad on here ever since blocking Google analytics with my hosts file.

Adblock removes the ad from the source code before the page even loads, and requires no hosts file maintenance. There is no harm is using both methods but its unnecessary to maintain a hosts file

You would have to format your hard drive about 7 times to make any data unrecoverable.

Isn't Ubuntu a form of Linux? I really should have gotten away from Windows years ago. It might do me some good to focus on learning a new system anyway. But would you recommend this Ubuntu?
