But then again, since remote control of 747 has been demonstrated, and Northwoods showed the tactical efficiency of using them as weapons, it is hard to tell pilot suicide, from remote-takeover-terminate as in the "Lone Gunman" episode/prophetic-meme where the 9/11 plan was leaked: Remote-takeover=terminate is thwarted. Should there be a pilot-suicide safety? And if it existed, wouldn't it be used accidentally to kill some target on some flight? Of course it would, that is the definition of "conumdrum".

I heard the f4 phantom has been droned? That has got to be the sweetest RC item on the market. Almost enough to blackmail a whole bunch of people just to afford one! This crash was simply a nose wheel 'down' light failed.

All three of the crew became involved in the attempt to fix it when the autopilot was accidentally disconnected when the captain got out of his seat.

The plane descended from 2000 into the Eveglades with only the first officer in his seat and unaware that the plane was descending until the 200 ft. warning buzzer came on.

He was so surprised he couldn't react in time.

In those days there was no clear, audible autopilot disconnect warning which there is now.

I loved flying the L-1011 even if my Dad did invent the L-1011 autopilot (Lear L-102C) and its logic for 2 separate autopilots monitoring the approach and landing.

The Lockheed L-1011 with the Lear autopilot was the first airliner to achieve category IIIa (ceiling zero).

Both United 583 and USAIR 487 were pilot suicides covered by the same alleged deficiency 'Rudder hard over caused by yaw damper failure".

It was really a stupid excuse for those who knew anything about yaw damper operation, but it was vitally necessary that the public never find out that airline pilots were commiting suicide, taking whole loads of passengers with them.

*cough cough* shameless bump *cough*

ETs are causing all the bad stuff happening on this world? Oh great....I'm stuck on this earth with the crazies. Hopefully I'll be out of here in about 50 years. :-) And I'm never coming back.

John, that's very interesting, and coming from a former L10-11 pilot you really know what you're talking about. I've also read that some L10-11's had a downstairs bar in the hold. Very cool.

Do you think Qantas is being a little economical with the truth regarding how serious this incident was? Was the fact that there were so many senior pilots in the cockpit a help or a hinderance?

Does mankind need to inform any alien species that might exist when any travel outside earth's atmosphere takes place?

I ask as there are claims that say aliens have prohibited man form going to the moon, so are we restricted as to when we can fly?
