* UNTIL 230 PM CDT WEDNESDAY

* AT 228 PM CDT...EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT CONTINUED TO REPORT THAT THE
A NEARLY 100 FOOT SECTION OF THE FAYVILLE LEVEE...JUST SOUTH OF THE
RAILROAD BRIDGE AT THEBES...CONTINUES TO OVERTOP. THIS WILL PRODUCE
ADDITIONAL FLOODING THAT WILL LIKELY CLOSE PARTS OF HIGHWAY 3. IT
WILL ALSO AFFECT THE COMMUNITIES OF OLIVE BRANCH AND EVENTUALLY
CAIRO.
* RUNOFF FROM AN EXPECTED RAINFALL BETWEEN ONE TO TWO AND A HALF

Cheri Kentucky --Our mid day news reported that due to weather and safety of those preparing this they had to stand down .... apparently there is still 12-18 hours worth of LOADING before they can blow it (and they have NOT officially announced anyway)

Sheila Watson --They are gonna have to do something. Everything up north is starting to fill up fast. The diversion channel is coming up .3 to .4 feet per hour. It's gotta go somewhere. It may all be swampland before it's over if the rain doesn't stop.

Laura A Hines-- From dongola down to cairo is flooded the fields are full the ditches are full almost all side roads are blocked off.mounds black top is under water on the 37 end and meridian rd is blocked cause of water mound city is flooding this is a disaster!

Deb Burns Westcott-- The only thing I heard is the the Corps have turned off the river pumps at Cairo to take the strain off the wall. It was also mentioned that without the pumps on Cairo would begin to flood. I am not sure how accurate this information is.

Paula Smith-Cade weather radio, flash flood in Alexander County is extended due to the levee breech there which is now about 100 feet wide. This is under the rail road. Not good, not good at all.

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE OFFICE
OF THE PRAIRIE COUNTY JUDGE.

PRAIRIE COUNTY AUTHORITIES HAVE ISSUED AN EVACUATION NOTICE FOR
RESIDENTS IN THE FLOOD PRONE AREAS EAST OF THE WHITE RIVER AT DES
ARC AND BISCOE. THE ROADS IN THE AREA WILL SOON BE IMPASSABLE DUE
TO FLOODING.

PLEASE EVACUATE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. SHELTERS ARE AVAILABLE IN DES
ARC CHURCHES...HAZEN ARMORY...AND THE DEVALLS BLUFF GYM. CALL

The mandatory evacuation for Cairo does not have all city residents scared. According to Illinois State Police Capt. Harry Masse, commander of District 22, about 100 of the approximate 2,800 residents remain in the city and are unwilling to leave even as the continued rise of historic flood water levels in the Ohio and Mississippi rivers pose serious threats to the city. "We've offered them rides to the shelters," he said. "They're just going to wait it out." Duke Jones, a Cairo resident, said he will stay at his home until there is a levee breach or dangerous problems with sand boils in the city. "I feel confident that the levee is going to hold, and as long as the sewers in Cairo are operating, I think everything's going to be all right," he said. Jones said he is registered with the Illinois State Police and National Guard, and they will alert all remaining residents by city sirens when and if the situation turns life threatening, in which case, he does have some items packed and ready to go. "I'm not fearful at all right now," he said. "I've got a steak ready to cook tonight, and it's just business as usual as far as I'm concerned." Masse said overall the evacuation process has gone smoothly and every house in Cairo has been checked. Police officials are stationed at city entrances ordering all individuals to sign in and out when entering and leaving the city.

General orders pipes at Bird Point levee loaded with blasting agent

Walsh, president of the Mississippi River Commission, on Sunday directed U.S. Army Corps of Engineers crews to move barges of explosives across the river to Missouri and load the pipes with the blasting agents that, if detonated, would send water flowing over more than 130,000 acres in Mississippi County.

The order came about 3:30 p.m. Sunday and corps officials said loading the pipes with the "slurry" -- a liquid mix of aluminum powder and sodium perchlorate -- would take about 20 hours, meaning the work should be completed by noon today.

Corps spokeswoman Lisa Coghlan said Walsh opted to pump the slurry into the pipes due to the fast elevation of floodwaters.

"Gen. Walsh will make another determination [today] and, if he says so, we'll be ready to go," she said.

So, they're gonna load 250 tons of explosive in these tubes? How much does that cost per ton? What if they don't BLOW the levee? Are they going to pump it back out? If so, can it be reused? If not, what keeps some numbnut from blowing it after they leave?

I'm sure the cost is payed for by Illinois taxes, nevermind.
