Unfortunately no one on that forum thought to make it a word problem. And oddly enough a physics forum is split 50/50 as to the 2 or 288 which is the same as our 1 or 9 1/2 a chicken each 24 divided by 48 correct so how did you get 9 for the OP? 6 divided by 2 =3 x 1+2 + 3 so 3 x 3 =9 oh I see... 6 / 2(3) = 6 /6 = 1 my bad. |

Algebraically, 2(9+3) is an inseparable quantity. That's to say that the distributive property of multiplication would make it so (2*9 + 2*3) which = 24. |

Your lack of logic cracks me up too. They are laughing because you stated the above was 1 when it is an equation for 9. |

I will substitute variables into the brackets so it becomes 6/2(x+y) simplifying the equation it becomes 6/(2x+2y) divide numerator and denominator by 2 yields 3/(x+y) put your values in for x and y yields 3/(1+2) 3/3 = 1 Where is my chicken dinner please? I'd rather die on my feet than "live" on my knees. |

Very good. "Be strong and courageous.
