However if this was 6/2(1+2x) then you could use the FOIL method easily enough. We are only dealing with the simple order of operations here. true. There are unsolved math and physics problems out there. So i dont know if the answer is one or nine. I just wanted the fruit and vegetables...lol. Nine just makes more sense but i am sure the computer programmers are laughing at this thread so basic for so many pages. |

This is an acronym for B.......Brackets O.......Of D.......Division M.......Minus A.......Addition S.......Subtraction So, first the Brackets..1+2=3 now we have 6/2x3 now the "of" which is 2x3=6 now we have 6/6 Do the Division and 6 divided by 6=1 Q.E.D. almost right.. Rule 1: First perform any calculations inside parentheses. Rule 2: Next perform all multiplications and divisions, working from left to right. Rule 3: Lastly, perform all additions and subtractions, working from left to right. 6÷2(1+2) = ? 6÷2*(3) = ? 6÷2 = 3 * 3 = 9 Yes, but you do the multiplication FIRST. That's the rule. The answer is 1. nope.. both multiplications and divisions are both done in step two.. but the order is working from left to right.. if the equation was (1+2)6÷2 = ? then it would be 9 as well.. (1+2) = ? (3)*6÷2 = ? (3)*6 = 18÷2 = 9 the only problem some make is working from left to right! |
