Who cares what anyone pays for anything?

There is no price signal in our "free" (fiat) market.

never been a fan of later Picassos but you're 'buying a slice of history' when you stump up cash for art.

:)

of course, it's futile and insane.

By this amount of cash I could buy a Ferrari 250 GTO 1962 and a mansion in some Mediterranean beach. That's the piece of history I would spend this money, not in something that could have been done by a 1st grade kid and stolen by a drunk dude who put his name on it.

The point you may have missed is that this painting is for the person who ALREADY HAS the Ferrari 250GTO and a mediterranean mansion.

Don't worry, though, It's certain he's a banker and hasn't come by it honestly. Prolly has to pay bodyguards and look over his shoulder all the time. He's NOT enjoying it.

The person who bought it probably just had a bunch of fiats laying around and figures that once the currency crashes, it will look like a great deal.
