I think that these evolved reptiles became a super technologically advanced species, and learned how to: move between dimensions; make super sophisticated hardware and weaponry; learned all the secrets of the DNA; could live extraordinarily long lives; colonized the inner Earth, Mars, and planets in other star systems.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if this "world" we're in now is a holographic illusion that they created.
