When I lived in the US, I sensed that the pedophile vibe was much stronger in that culture. Women's fashion as well as certain mannerisms - regional, to be sure - closed the gap between women and children. So did some popular songs - a woman must be helpless...

I don't think I would ever understand a pedophile from the inside. My empathy stops there. I'm attracted to women and I can abstractly understand how gays are attracted to each other.

Sex slavery is horrible, but pedophilia, is far worse than simple rape or prostitution. It is totally about what the other person does not want, does not know yet, and at best easily turns into disgusting, at worst, a horror story that haunts her all her life. Forcing his or her boundaries with a jackhammer only you can operate... Psychotherapy show that very clearly. It is like forcing the bud of a flower to open up.
Nor can I look at any crime or abuse perpetrated against sensitive kids lightly. They look at adults as physically larger, threatening and in control. Even wrong gestures may stay for years not only actions because most children will magnify them in their psyche.

I understand why Michael wanted to help poor and abused kids. When you work with a kid psychologicaly, it is as if you worked with a thousand adults.
