Mysterious 'THUNDERINGS' at midnight in NYC area continuously for 15 minutes...

My sister's neighbor just said he heard it even before midnight...

There was this weird rumbling here.I noticed it about 1 A.M.
Not like thunder,this seemed to vibrate from the ground.

I hear it in northern Illinois, but not for that duration. You can tell that it is moving but it takes about 4-5 minutes for the sound to fade. It is not as loud as a true thunderstorm, less than half as loud and monotone. It usually occurs between 3-4 am.

if it is going on for 15 minutes why did you not think to video tape it

I think I hear the same thing in Nashville Tennessee...

However, I would describe it more like the sound of moving air in the sky, but with no wind. Almost like a huge military jet aircraft comes out of nowhere and then suddenly goes away in all at once. And I should note... It doesn't fade in and fade out like a jet sound normally does... It starts and stops in an instant, almost like a switch is flipped. Weird.

And yes, it happens sometime between 2-4am

Check out the above glp link. This is happening all over. The OP for the above is in Seattle. This is no coincidence, I just don't what is causing this. Going to keep the cell phone near the bed so that when it happens again, I can at least record the sound.
