HKMEx To End COMEX Gold Futures Trading: The End of the CRIMEX Monopoly
From ZH:

Hong Kong Mercantile Exchange's 1 Kilo Gold Contract To End Comex Gold Futures Trading (And "Bang The Close") Monopoly

30 years ago, Bunker Hunt, while trying to demand delivery for virtually every single silver bar in existence, and getting caught in the middle of a series of margin hikes (sound familiar), accused the Comex (as well as the CFTC and the CBOT) of changing the rules in the middle of the game (and was not too happy about it). Whether or not this allegation is valid is open to debate. We do know that "testimony would reveal that nine of the 23 Comex board members held short contracts on 38,000,000 ounces of silver. With their 1.88 billion dollar collective interest in having the price go down, it is easy to see why Bunker did not view them as objective." One wonders how many short positions current Comex board members have on now. Yet by dint of being a monopoly, the Comex had and has free reign to do as it pleases: after all, where can futures investors go? Nowhere... at least until now. In precisely 9 days, on May 18, the Hong Kong Mercantile exchange will finally offer an alternative to the Comex and its alleged attempts at perpetual precious metals manipulation.

That's good news. I think it's odd how we only have one exchange like Comex today. There ought to be many of them in a free market.

I'd guess that this last series of raids was because this opening up of the markets cannot be stopped and TPTB needed to do a little bargain shopping ...

I know. Methinks they are not going to give up too much control, but they may have no choice but to open it up more than it is. Hopefully, that will, as you say, "temper the fraud". "Fair" would probably be too much to ask for now ...

There is a widespread (in the US) group already doing this AND making some pretty beautiful silver 'medallions'. I like the Andrew Jackson.

[link to www.opencurrency.com] And, they just updated their website so the merchant listing is back...

Over 26000 merchants (accepting the medallions at $50.00 if memory serves).

Are you thinking mid-May would be a good time for this correction to reverse?

What the crimex did last week smells of desperation. It worked against the Hunt brothers. Question is : Will it work this time too?

I'm thinking this.... who is going to keep buying the us dollar when there is no fiscal responsibility in DC???

What are you thinking ???

They are pummeling it quite mercilessly at the moment. I will buy more physical if it gets close to 25 and it may well at this rate. I imagine it will disappear in practice around then. They may pump and dump again to squeeze what they can out before COMEX defaults and they lose control. It's interesting to say the least!

The one year trend line on silver is still holding. I think that is very important. I think $45 silver is too expensive right now. I'd just like to see a slow normal uptrend back in place. I also hope $1500 gold holds but the one year trendline support is more like $1400 i think.

Yes. Gold and silver are still bullish markets. Gold has hardly taken a hit in all this. Silver has been the special target. I'm happy to see it holding well mid-30s. They want to drive it lower. It's not cooperating :)

From what i read, the paper market takes over at noon NYC time as that is when London Closes. So, London trades in real gold until 12pm East Coast usa. I need to count 15 time zones from Hong Kong to determine if it will impact the paper market in New York!

Yes, I know about the connection. I do not expect that the move means a free market. Am just hoping for a more open one. If the power shifts to the East, so be it. My only concern is to get the criminals out of power in this country and to put it back into the hands of the people. We may have to go through hell and back, but we will do that.

Jim Rogers moved to China years ago and called the move "brilliant". I agree with Jim about a lot of things but disagree there. He showed his true colors as a shill (and a fool) right then, IMO.

Right, a freer more open market is the best we can hope for. Starting in Hong Kong and counting 15 time zones it looks like Hong Kong to California is covered. Then the nine remaining time zones form California back through to Japan it will be closed. So, it looks like Hong Kong will still be open when New York opens meaning perhaps the constant New York morning slam down will be taken out of the picture. Is this making any sense???
