Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1029725A community works project of this scale could have supported a pretty huge workforce and supplied many with jobs that otherwise they wouldn't have. Makes you wonder what it is exactly they're protecting? If you live in a state where you can't afford to hire even day laborers for a project like this, what the hell are you protecting, sounds like a shithole. Create jobs where they're needed, fill them with eager people ready to work with their hands towards a goal, and THEN when you can't find any more laborers use prison labor. Otherwise it's just more prison planet shenanigans and I hope the US Govt stops them with force, because they need to be. Ironically I would be 100% behind this IF they used paid labor and provided jobs to the citizens, but using Prison Labor just shows they have zero desire to do the right thing and only want to act out of the wrong motivations which can only end badly. Why shouldn't they use prison labor, most of those assholes in prison there are illegal criminals. It's poetic justice. True that. Plus the taxpayers are paying for the upkeep of those prisoners. They might as well get some benefit from it. At one time, prisoners were required to work for their upkeep, they slept better and fought less. Not a bad idea. |

How long before TPTB deem this an illegal construction project? [link to www.washingtonpost.com] Kudos, AZ! Update, Brewer is about to make a public statement shortly. People may not like what I have to say but these border states basically allow businesses to hire illegals. That's where the problem starts and ends. If they refuse to revoke their license to do business for worker violations then they deserve an influx of illegal workers. People might not agree with that but it's the truth. If people weren't able to get a job without an ssn then illegals wouldn't be pouring into the country. While that basically makes big brother bigger, it's still the case. What we have here is a bunch of unethical business owners using a labor cost advantage to squeeze out the ethical business owners. It's not just the border states that "allow" businesses to hire illegals. It's done across the states and supported by the feds. It's fueled by greed and needs to stop. Border states are starting to see the light and the people are pushing back. |

It's a great way to bring more government to the border to supervise affairs. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1372971We the people here in Arizona, don't want nor we need the Government. I pray that one day we will be a sovereign state. It just don't make since, TSA pat you down at the airports and take away our rights. Yet they do nothing with our boarders. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 9546We'll see how long the prison lobby will let that go on in AZ. Brewer is a prison stooge... Our tax dollars have been supporting the illegals for medical, welfare, wic and HUD. All that money we will be saving we won't need any of the feds funds.. |

War on drugs....what a joke!!! Arizona’s Democratic senator Dennis DeConcini also feared for the lives of his family members, according to the FBI sources. DeConcini served on the Senate intelligence committee from 1987 until his retirement in 1995. Quoting: Xibalbá benothing as long as they´re white.... as an eggshell! Nothing, as long as they wait in line, in turn like everyone who enters the country legally does. No--one likes people who jump in line. They don't fill out the proper paperwork and therefore aren't attached to follow the rules like citizens do. Don't let people lie and say it's about skin color. There are plenty American citizens of Mexican descent that hate the illegal aliens not abiding by our laws as their are white people. Sympathizers blame race. It's not about race, it's about following the same set of rules everyone else has to follow. |

Although Mexico accounts for only a small share of worldwide heroin (that is why were in Afghanistan, to control the heroin trade) production, it supplies a large share of the heroin distributed in the United States. Drug cartels in Mexico control approximately 70% of the foreign narcotics that flow into the United States. The US State Department estimates that 90% of cocaine entering the United States transits through Mexico, with Colombia being the main cocaine producer and that wholesale of illicit drug sale earnings estimates range from $13.6 billion to $48.4 billion annually. Mexican drug traffickers increasingly smuggle money back into Mexico in cars and trucks, likely due to the effectiveness of U.S. efforts at monitoring electronic money transfers.
