I work within the prison system. If the general tax-paying public knew what and the amount we spend on those incarcerated, the SH*! would really hit the fan! If you're homeless or just don't want to work ... it's definitely an option. Free health & dental!

we pay for them to take college courses, have access to law books so they can better fight what they were put in there for, and lots of other things that should not be. I could not even pay for my kids college courses why should the goverment pay for criminals??

It's not from tax payer expenses anyway, all the money we use to pay taxes goes to paying off debt, all the stuff we buy with "tax payer expenses" is on loan, your grandkids will be paying for those prisoners sex changes not you, so shut up, just shut up. Well said, people that are this cruel should be the one's in prison in the first place. Who are you OP to decide what someone in prison needs? They aren't there to be punished, they are there to be rehabilitated. Whatever crime they committed could have easily happened because of their transgender condition, acting out against others for how bad they felt inside.

I got a great idea to remedy any prison costs:

1) Make medical marijuana legal on a federal level

2) Let the prisoners grow marijuana in certain areas.

3) Anyone that wants to become a dispensary and/or courier, would be required to go through a complete background check, etc. Couriers/those employed in dispensaries could be independent, but government regulated (license, bonded, insured, ya know, the whole thing).

Prisons would easily make back any tax money and they would feel somewhat productive to society. If this were put into effect, taxes wouldn't be required for prison costs at all.

Taking this one step further, if they want food: they gotta work for it. ie-farming, raising the cattle and chickens, growing their food, etc...even cook their own foods (ie- like the enlisted navy personnel do turns in the mess hall/mess deck during deployments). Then they wouldn't be able to complain about prison foods.

The only people that should be working in prisons are those that are required for paperwork, librarian, prison safety, and public safety (those on watch, regulating activities/activity supervisors, etc).

If they want anything, they should be forced to create it themselves or pay for it with their work, themselves.

I know I'm living in a dream world with all my silly ideas. What happens if someone steals any marijuana? Simple: give them skivvies/pajamas to wear upon entrance. A complete check prior to entering the greenhouse/land with the marijuana, then a complete search upon changing out of those pajamas and skivvies. It's pretty simple, imo.

The only thing that might limit any prisons would be the required space to grow the marijuana.

If folks wanna whack off or stick on with their own dimes, so be it. What PISSES me OFF is that I had to come up with 20 grand for a freaking prosthetic leg to WALK again, and get my ass out of a wheelchair, because insurance won't get me one. (and DARS said nope, too.) on a good note, I am learning to walk now, in spite of this news...just WRONG.

well if they are doin like 10 years or more then yes ,how else can they get the job done,i suppose they will heal better if they have it done younger so when they get out they can be a he/her and new identity ,second chances and all,evry one deserves a second even third chance,, maybe its the being trapped in a body you hate what caused them to do wrong.
