For me it was the pre-teen gang bang in IT. Just seemed gross and unnecessary to me.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1380835

I'd like to third or fourth this.. but only because I can't remember the scene mentioned up-thread in Gerald's Game

I always remember a scene where a mother is feeding chocolate pudding to her dead baby and it just plops on the table - can't remember which book

Todd's fantasy about raping a Jewish girl during the Holocaust in Apt Pupil.

King may be a decent storyteller but, in my opinion, he effectively writes comics for grown-ups.

the scene in misery (book scene, not movie scene) where the woman 'amputates' then 'cauterizes' the author's gangrene ankle. that was some disturbing shit to me as a 6th grader.

King admits to using cocaine a great deal during those years.

I must say I enjoyed the reads. Cocaine is a hell of a drug.

the stand, when trashman is going down on that other guy with the gun
Christians have had to face and realize their own sins, and feel compelled to try and help others as well.

This chant of Holier than thou is wrong and is taught by others making you think what is cool or acceptable to them.

The thought of "believe as i do" is strongly in an unbelievers life, because they feel they will be ridiculed by their friends.

Every falsehood a unbeliver weilds, is merely a reflection of the obstacles that unbeliever must face from his very own peers.

Unbelievers are the true followers, they are dedicated to fear of what other people think of them.

And because of this, they are ashamed of themselves, but wall themselves up to feel comfortable and safe, assuring themselves with rationality and laughter.

Which is insanity!

Susannah Dean's sex with the demon in the Gunslinger series. I thought that one was kind of gross, though it was funny when she asked Roland what if the demon "swings both ways". Never read IT, so I am glad I missed out on that one.

The Stand
Gunslinger series (and some of the books tied to it, like Bachmann).

The rest are pretty much shit.

Maybe. I always thought his strong suit was character development, though. The storyline could be crap, but with believable characters, you can get involved in the story. The Stand had great characters and I was most interested in what would happen to Jake in Dark Tower series.

I think you guys might have missed what he was doing here. He was bringing up the notion of a cosmic evil that lovecraft came up with in the Chutulu mythos. A Giant Space Turtle is like call the Chutuhlu a giant space squid, which kinda misses its nature.

It's STEPHEN KING. And I thought the ending of the movie, The Mist (directed by Frank Darabont) was really shocking. The father shoots his 10 year old son and 2 friends in the car because he thinks that they are doomed when they were not.

People, these are works of fiction - they are not true! Just someone with an imagination trying to make a scene seem real. Get over it!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1087724

THat's a pretty weak argument. This is a discussion in the academic sense. Art can be liberating, insightful, disturbing, and many many other things. That's the reason they have degrees in literature at universities. A real argument would state why it was necessary in the story, or at least how it was significant or not.

Saying it's simply made up doesn't do anything but show how uneducated, or close-minded you can be.
