AS of nearly 30 YEARS ago, ALL new buildings in Russia, and Switzerland HAD to have a SUB-sub basement with nuclear blast shelter. Students in my class who visited Portugal said they had been in them while vacationing there .

After I married my Swiss wife (1985), we went to Switzerland to visit parents, brothers and sisters. Having learned from my wife that most of the LONG underground tunnels contain shelters with hospital, fuel supply, food, etc. I asked my brother-in-law, who WAS distric Civil Defence Chief in St. Galean, if the last big tunnel we came thought was one of them. His answer, translated by the wife was " No, no. I can't tell YOU that, as they are only for Swiss citizens."

But on another trip, they had moved to a new high rise, and took us to the sub-sub basement and inside the large underground room. The door was concret, with steel frame, about one foot thick. VERY impressive ! It was at present, stocked ONLY with good wine, lol !
