"Love Of Money Is The Root Of All Evil"
just posted here: [link to houseofxen.wordpress.com]

“Money” is an illusionary concept. As wealth accumulates, it is only inevitable that said wealth will begin to mentally prioritize this illusion above all else. Materialism can create a heaven on earth, sure, but only upon the surface — past the novelty, money is lifeless and by itself cannot create or seriously maintain any emotion – let alone happiness. Enjoyment from life stems from one’s mindset, and when the mindset is shake by an illusion, this creates behaviors which many would refer to as “evil”. The statement could perhaps be rephrased, “Money is illusionary, and man’s repeated tendency to attach himself to this illusion fuels the evil of this world.”

(It is possible to have a large sum of money while still maintaining one’s core principles/self/character, but after a certain point your entire world becomes that of an illusion. Fame, success, connections and praise can be experienced in varying degrees, whether through a thankful smile or outright Beatlemania. Money is certainly a temptation, and thus the root of illusionary indulgence — but the individual is the resistance.)

Materialism is the paradigm of this planet. We're all on this earth to experience this and on the scale of spirit evolution it's one of the lowest echelon.

Huge oversight -- updated. The overall point of the post was a meditation upon the phrase, so it's meaning hasn't changed much.

I think I'd like to have a lot of money to fall in love with, then I'll be in a position to judge whether that statement is true or false. As of now, I'm in no position to say either way.

Tim. 6: 10 "For the love of money (and all it buys) placed before the love of God (in reality) is the root of all kinds of evil."

A clear distinction must be made between THE LOVE of money and money itself. God is not anti-money, or anti-wealth, He is anti-money WORSHIP.

It is ok to be wealthy!!!

But I'm also arguing, that it is HARD to be wealthy and maintain your principles. The very notion of wealth comes with illusionary temptation.

Re: "Love Of Money Is The Root Of All Evil"
From Atlas Shrugged (Ayn Rand)

""Or did you say it's the LOVE of money that's the root of all evil? To love a thing is to know and love its nature. To love money is to know and love the fact that money is the creation of the best power within you, and your passkey to trade your effort for the effort of the best among men. It's the person who would sell his soul for a nickel, who is the loudest in proclaiming his hatred of money—and he has good reason to hate it. The lovers of money are willing to work for it. They know they are able to deserve it."

"Let me give you a tip on a clue to men's characters: the man who damns money has obtained it dishonorably; the man who respects it has earned it.

"Run for your life from any man who tells you that money is evil. That sentence is the leper's bell of an approaching looter. So long as men live together on earth and need means to deal with one another—their only substitute, if they abandon money, is the muzzle of a gun. "
