why would you want to homeschool your kid unless you absolutly have to?. he should be at school, with his friends socializing and preparing for the real world.

Really? Tell that to the parents whose homeschooled children consistently outperform their public schooled peers.

I realize the show enforces a lot of negative stereotypes.
And I laughed at the homeschool jokes, because they were so far removed from what I know to be true.

Only lazy parents who do not want to give their children any exposure to the real world home school their children.

Sending children to public school is a great opportunity for your children to see the real world for what it is: total apeshit crack pot of humanity.

Maintaining a good relationship with your children and explaining all of life's complexities is the best way to stay actively involved in your children's lives.

It may not be perfect but it is a lot better than sending them unprepared to deal with the real world when they move out.

I ran into a home school human the other day. Man what a wonderful person he was. I knew he was home schooled because he could use 5 dollar words in proper context. I thought wow he is so well educated for a 15 year old. He mom a public school teacher said he is only 11 and I pulled him out of public school because I know what they do to kids in public school.

You see their children in prep. schools, getting a much higher level of education that only money can buy.

Public school isn't that scary, its not all drugs and abortions, just part of life. You must have no faith in your ability to be a good parent if you cant trust your kids to make good decisions and choices when they're not around you.

homeschooling is great if you want your kid to be a socially inept retard

i suppose it could work if you send your kids to camp or something,but just having a few friends they play with doesn't equate to the same socialization that is imo pertinent to a "healthy human mind"

Are you aware of the amount of extra-curricular activites homeschoolers are usually involved in?

And likely have a lot more time for because of the flexibility of the schedule.

I've wondered about the effect of that on people at large, if say a sitcom like that can drive peoples actions.

The best example of what I'm talking about is homer simpson, his working at a nuclear power plant. Does the cartoon characters closeness and making light of nuclear disaster soften us up for when one actually happens. Obviously it would not be intentional... but how does it effect the mass consciousness.

Homeschool will probably become more prevalent in the internet age.. more parent working at home, and teachers that can just send assignments over the net, more efficient. Not a stereotype that will likely persist... much like a person who uses a computer was once a "nerd.. where now most people use them.


As for me I'll probably watch the show on hulu later to see what you are talking about.
