has anyone given into sleep paralysis? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 702997 United States 05/18/2011 03:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Everytime i would doze off lastnight i would slip in and out of it for about an hour. Has anyoneon here ever given in? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1364041I'm not sure what you mean by giving in though? I remember getting these in my younger years. Weird thing was that it always felt like i knew or woke up right before it happens. Also felt like the paralysis is from the back somewhere along the spine area. I gotta admit that the waking up though is from a feeling of terror then the paralysis occurs. It was kind of like that for a long while until one night it happened I got really pissed off and tried to fight through the paralysis... even managed to lift one arm up and made a 'giving the middle finger' to something behind me.... and those kind of stopped since that time. There has been more rare ones, but when i get that terror feeling, i just switch positions like laying on my back and those never set in and was able to sleep. I looked into the night-paralysis/terror idea a bit, and saw that it was usually attributed to nervous system/physiological sources, but when it happens it just doesn't feel that way though... Sounds crazy right? I'd really like to hear if other people have similar experiences and explanations. |

I don't recall having these experiences as a child, but they have been prevalent as an adult. I also experience a sensation of being shocked, something like being electrocuted. It is very intense, and I am always semi- conscious when it happens. Lately, it has been extreme. The other night, the shocks werw coipled with a rapid heart rate. |

SleepyNightOwl User ID: 1368705 United States 05/18/2011 03:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was finally diagnosed (after many years of seeing doctors) with narcolepsy. I now take 400 mg of Provigil each day along with 1-3 ritalin throughout the day as needed. I no longer have any other scary sleep experiences. :) The really weird thing is (very cool thing), when I was taking iodine (Iodoral) and painting my skin with iodine tincture, I had SO much energy and extremely clear thinking, I only needed to take 50 mg of Provigil per day and NO ritalin! It was so awesome!!! I was working my way down to no narcolepsy meds whatsoever, but I ran out of iodine about a week and a half ago (still waiting for my shipment grrr!) and the tiredness is back and I am once again having to take my full 400 mg of Provigil each day. I am telling you all, I think I am onto something! If any of you have been studying the effects of iodine, you will know that iodine has been used to successfully treat as well as reverse autoimmune (and other) disorders. Narcolepsy was just recently classified as an autoimmune disorder. I seriously have a feeling that narcolepsy has something to do with an iodine deficiency! BTW - Many people have completely cured their diabetes with iodine! This is not qwackery - it is the honest truth! I truly believe iodine is a miracle nutrient!!! Quoting: lv80 923132I haven't seen snakes but once when able to move and look back thought I saw something wispy/smokey/snakelike/streaklike that did move like snakelike underwater with a 'face' on the front. but at that point you really wonder if it's from waking up from deep sleep and was all in your head kind of thing, and just go back to sleep. |

I've tried to give into it ... Just cant seem to leave my body. Quoting: MadGameI do get it quite frequently, sometimes i don`t get it for a few months... then it returns. I got almost used to it, when it happens the only thing i have control of is my breath- i can accelerate it. But i can`t talk or make any noise. Then i but tremendous effort into moving a finger.... as soon as it moves for a few milimiters wich takes a about a minute or so i regain control over my body within the next 30 seconds. I have this when going to bed and on wakeup. Once i dreamed of falling to the ground on concrete from a few meters height, flat out. When i woke up i was lying face down... and was completly paralyzed. The saliva running out of my (shattered) mouth felt like blood. It felt quite real, an interesting experience... But only once i had an OBE! I woke up - and after a few seconds realized that i only woke up in dream. So i woke up again. That was when i realized that i was totally aware that i am still in a dream - but i could hear everything going on outside. And i could get up and watch my body still sleeping. I had total control of my thoughts and actions bur still my body was asleep. It was when i levitated out of my window (3. story) that i woke up, because i was so amazed by the feeling. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1388516 Canada 05/18/2011 07:16 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's demons. I used to get them quite frequently, along with visuals (I knew I was really awake when I saw them because the demons were fuzzy and out of focus, which is how everything looks without my glasses on, and I dream in perfect vision). As I said, I used to have these terrifying episodes quite frequently, but they stopped once I was born again as a disciple of Jesus, 12 years ago. Prior to that, I was an atheist who dabbled in the occult. The ages before us knew this truth about demonic oppression that manifests as "sleep paralysis", but the Age of Lie and Speculation (a.k.a. the Age of Enlightenment and science) has dismissed these truths as old wives' tales. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 50008900 Canada 11/15/2013 04:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Since i can remember- ive been suffering with this dilemma. I remember a time; however- when i didn't have these terrifying experiences. Boy those were the days. But as far as adult-hood goes- I have these experiences quite frequently. And it IS terrifying to say the least. I can feel it when it is about to occur- like a tingling sensation throughout my body. And than it turns to an almost shocking feeling. Hard to explain- but it hurts in a way. Once it happens- there is no returning back into my relaxing state. Immediate horror sets in- and im scared to keep my eyes open. I've experienced hypocognic hallucinations- and the odd times i have experienced obe's- in mid day- not to mention. All i can do is deal- and hope it doesnt happen again. But it always does. I fear going to bed at night- i fear the dark- i am an adult and i am afraid of the dark. I have seen one too many things in my own eyesight that never actually happened. Ive been face to face with something that doesnt even exist- and than i wake up and BAM. All is normal again. Does that classify as insanity?? |
