Re: It's here -- LIQUID BODY ARMOR!
I knew nanotechnology would be involved just from reading the title.

 Quoting: StreakX

"A great deal of largely US-military-funded research has taken place over the last few years into combining Kevlar fabric with a shear-thickening fluid. Shear-thickening fluid is an example of a "smart material," a class of materials that can sense and respond to changes in the environment, for example through the application of electricity or magnetism, or to changes in temperature. Shear-thickening fluids increase their viscosity in response to changes in pressure. An example of a fluid under research is ethylene glycol containing suspended nano-particles of silica. Under normal conditions, the particles are weakly bonded to each other and can move around with ease. The shock of an impact strengthens those chemical bonds and the particles lock into place. Once the force from the impact dissipates, the bonds weaken again."

I have done a fair amount of research on shear-thickening fluids, and have found the best chemicals to use are polyethylene glycol and silica. Dilute the mixture in ethanol and soak the Kevlar fabric. Once soaked, dry the Kevlar in a drying oven to evaporate the ethanol, and you will be left with treated Kevlar. Anyone can make super Kevlar with chemicals on Ebay.

so it doesn't have to be nano-silica?

Yes it has too be Nano however it doesn't have too be silica, it can be nanometals.

I think Nano Silica is best to use for its milisecond thickening potential. People have been treating Kevlar in there basments since 2009.

its not a balloon, its liquid applied too kevlar too make it super strong. Its kinda like a super duper glue that only works when a bullet hits it giving the armor energy.

4 layers of kevlar becomes 14 layers when treated with 3 Chemicals off of Ebay. This is Revolutionary and Anyone can do this too there cheap Low Level Kevlar Vests.

That suit will probley come with a cyanide Microchip in it too keep you in line. Its Better too make your own armor with your own desired Specs. Armor doesn't have any laws here in canada yet except for the west coast. Most states wont let Felon's own body armor.

Mesoporous silica is nano size and i think may work.

Take a zip lock bag full of corn starch and a little water to the range and shoot it.

The liquid to solid trick is nothing new,we learned about it in 3rd grade.

Pretty amazing stuff. In the video they only used pointed objects. Even the guy with the bow wasn't using a bladed arrowhead. I wonder how well it does against a blade? Either way, very cool.

Probably the manufacture wants to own/control the results of any experiments resulting from the use of nano silica.

So, if you treat a shirt or other non-Kevlar material with this, how much stronger is the resultant material than before?

Purestcolloids sells mesosilica retail to anyone.

Also food grade diatomaceous earth is super fine silica. I wonder if its small enough to be considered nano particle.
