Sinkhole news and it isn't good.

Snip...
Assumption Parish officials have been advised by DNR that their exploratory well observers have confirmed that brine cavern #3 has failed.

And a most important snip...
“The tool used to measure cavern depth bottomed out at approximately 4,000 feet – a point estimated to be 1,300 feet higher than the floor had been measured prior to the cavern closure in 2011. This preliminary finding indicates that some type of dense material has fallen to the bottom of the cavern. A sample of the material has been retrieved from the cavern floor and will be analyzed. The retrieved material does not appear to be consistent with material normally found in brine cavern operations....

And the evac orders are still in place.
Now what in the hell is down at the bottom of that hole?

hi Morning All!
Volcano Alley
Type: Earthquake
Magnitude: 4.9
DateTime: Tuesday September 25 2012, 15:48:45 UTC
Region: Unimak Island region, Alaska
Depth: 40 km
Source: USGS Feed
Unimak Island Volcanoes, Alaska
Location: 54.47N, 163.9W
Elevation: 9,373 feet, (2,857 m)

Each of the islands in the Aleutian chain is made up of one or more volcanoes. Unimak Island, pictured here in a radar image taken by the Seasat satellite, has many different volcanoes, both young and old. At the top of the image is Westdahl, a large shield volcano that is covered by a glacier; eruptions occurred in 1964-5 and 1978. On the northwest (left) side of Westdahl is Pogromni, a steep-sided stratovolcano. Little is known about Pogromni, and it hasn't erupted in 160 years.

In the middle of the radar image is a broad and low ridge that makes the elliptical rim of Fisher Caldera. This 11 x 18 km wide caldera formed about 9,100 years ago by the eruption of ash flows and the sinking of the original volcanic mountain that was previously there.

At the bottom of the image is a beautiful stratovolcano named Shishaldin. The Aleut Indians who live in the area call the mountain Sisquk, which means, "mountain which points the way when I am lost." Shishaldin is such a tall (2,857 m high) and recognizable volcano that it is a landmark. Shishaldin almost always has a puff of steam coming from its summit crater

and look at these last week there was no activity at all

6.2 earthquake off Baja is quickly followed by aftershocks

September 25, 2012 | 6:09pm LA Times

A 6.2 magnitude earthquake off the coast of Baja California has quickly been followed by at least two others.

The earthquake occurred in the ocean, 47 miles north-northeast of La Paz, off the coast of Baja California Peninsula in Mexico, the U.S. Geological Service reported Tuesday. That’s also about 604 miles south-southeast of Phoenix.

The shaker struck about 4:45 p.m Los Angeles time at a depth of 6.3 miles. Twenty minutes later, a second quake of magnitude 4.2 was recorded. A third quake, with a magnitude of 4.8, occurred 12 minutes after the second.

There was no immediate word on damage or injuries.

The area west of the Gulf of California, including the Baja California Peninsula, is moving northwestward with the Pacific plate at a speed of about 95 millimeters per year. Plate motion has pulled Baja California away from the coast, forming the Gulf of California and is the cause of earthquakes in that region, according to the USGS.

Mexico has a long history of destructive earthquakes. In September 1985, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake killed more than 9,500 people in Mexico City.

1700 Cascadia earthquake

The 1700 Cascadia earthquake was a magnitude 8.7 to 9.2 megathrust earthquake that occurred in the Cascadia subduction zone on January 26, 1700.

The earthquake involved the Juan de Fuca Plate underlying the Pacific Ocean, from mid-Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, south along the Pacific Northwest coast as far as northern California, USA. The length of the fault rupture was about 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) with an average slip of 20 meters (22 yards).

The earthquake caused a tsunami that struck the coast of Japan, and may also be linked to the Bonneville Slide.

Evidence supporting the occurrence of the 1700 earthquake has been gathered into the 2005 book The Orphan Tsunami of 1700, by geologist Brian Atwater and others.

The evidence suggests that it took place at about 21:00 on January 26, 1700 (NS). Although there were no written records in the region at the time, the earthquake's precise time is nevertheless known from Japanese records of a tsunami that has not been tied to any other Pacific Rim earthquake. The most important clue linking the tsunami in Japan and the earthquake in the Pacific Northwest comes from studies of tree rings (dendrochronology) which show that red cedar trees killed by lowering of coastal forests into the tidal zone by the earthquake have outermost growth rings that formed in 1699, the last growing season before the tsunami. Local Indigenous American oral traditions describing a large quake also exist, although these do not specify the date.

The period for these earthquakes is arround 300-400 years

OK, can I tell you my belief concerning the big quake for the west coast...

I firmly believe there will be "2" quakes separated by hours or a few days.

The 1st one real bad...The 2nd one much, much worse.
