These people need to evacuate a much wider area than has been cleared. Residents need to go for the health of themselves and their children and not wait for officials to make the call. Even if they run up major debt on a credit card to get out of there, it would be preferable to the ill effects and health problems will cost them later.

The 1906 Ecuador-Colombia earthquake occurred at 15:36 UTC on January 31, off the coast of Ecuador, near Esmeraldas. The earthquake had a magnitude of 8.8 and triggered a destructive tsunami that caused at least 500 casualties on the coast of Colombia
Tectonic setting
The earthquake occurred along the boundary between the Nazca Plate and the South American Plate. The earthquake is likely to be a result of thrust-faulting, caused by the subduction of the Nazca plate beneath the South American plate.
The coastal parts of Ecuador and Colombia have a history of great megathrust earthquakes originating from this plate boundary.
Damage
The greatest damage from the tsunami occurred on the coast between Río Verde, Ecuador and Micay, Colombia. Estimates of the number of deaths caused by the tsunami vary between 500 and 1,500.[1]
Characteristics
The rupture zone for this earthquake was 500–600 km long, and encompassed those for the earthquakes of 1942 (Mw=7.8), 1958 (Mw=7.7) and 1979 (Mw=8.2). The lack of overlap between the three more recent events suggest the presence of minor barriers to rupture propagation along the plate boundary.[2][3] Although these three events ruptured the same area of the plate boundary overall, they released only a small fraction of the energy of the 1906 earthquake.[4]
Tsunami
The maximum recorded run-up height was 5 m in Tumaco, Colombia. At Hilo, Hawaii a 1.8 m run-up height was recorded for this event. The tsunami was also noted in Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, California and Japan
Future seismic hazard

Because the sequence of three earthquakes that ended in 1979 did not release as much energy as the 1906 event, it has been suggested that an earthquake of similar magnitude to that in 1906 was likely in the near future. However, analysis of the amount of slip associated with the three later events suggest that they have released most of the accumulated displacement across the plate boundary since 1906

Look at this seismic activity is up again at Alaskan volcanoes and on this webicorder you can see from
Mt Spurr, Redoubt, Augustine and others the Columbian volcano is shown as a deep strike at the exact time it hit! Also, Redoubt, Augustine were quiet on the 27th [link to www.avo.alaska.edu] yesterday

I posted this on another sinkhole thread 4-5 days ago thought you might be interested because you have so much information about the situation. I got quite a few responses.

I wanted to post on here to let you know I contacted Erin Brochovoch regarding the sinkhole and all the cover ups and started sending information that we had found about the situation especially the list of toxic elements that have been listed showing from tests so far. A lot of the poisons listed were the same found in the lawsuit Erin won for the people of Hinkley, CA whos wells were poisoned the blatant coverup killed a lot of residents and gave them all kinds of terrible cancers when I saw the list I thought the people of the parishes need her help. This sinkhole situation appears exactly the same. Anyway, a gentleman from her office called me and said they are working on it and they want to talk to anyone they can that lives in the immediate area. He also wants any information that isn't mainstream to help residents if anyone reading this is from there or wants to send him information you can im me and I will give you the contact info.I don't think I am allowed to post it here? I don't want to loose my membership I'd be lost without it :). I was very impressed with how sincere he was, that he contacted me all the way in Alaska and that he didn't think I was some nutjob. I also want to let everyone know up front for the record I am not a shill nor am I affliated with anyone or attempting to capitalize on the people of the area's misfortune. I am just a nosy fellow GPL'er who sees a terrible injustice going on, wanted to help and try to make a difference.
