Five people died in the Solomon islands because of the Tsunami that was generated.

(CNN) -- An 8.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the Solomon Islands in the South Pacific on Wednesday, triggering a tsunami that killed five people but didn't threaten the wider region.

Four elderly people and one child died after the roughly 1-meter (3-feet) high wave hit the Santa Cruz Islands, an eastern region of the Solomon Islands, said Augustine Bilve, a director at a hospital in Lata, the main town in the area.

The strong waves appeared to have caused damage and disruption at the local airport and nearby villages.

Bilve said that some patients were being relocated, but the hospital was intact.

"Our staff in Temotu province felt the quake and within five minutes there were a number of wave surges, which flooded the runway there," said Andrew Catford, the program director in the Solomon Islands for the humanitarian group World Vision.

India~ A 65-year-old farmer was killed and standing crops in about 80 villages in Tikamgarh and Chhatarpur districts of Bundelkhand region were damaged in the hailstorm that struck the region on Monday night. The deceased farmer, identified as Dharma Lodhi, was a resident of Taparkheda village, located 40 km from Tikamgarh district headquarters. He died on the spot after a tree uprooted and fell on him during the hailstorm which lasted for almost 20 minutes, said police. The victim's family would be given an interim relief of Rs 1.5 lakhs as per government provision. "We are currently working with the officials of agriculture department to assess the damage caused by the hailstorm," said Rajesh Bamora, the Chhatarpur collector. He said more than 60 villages were affected. "We have dispatched teams for a field-to-field survey. Adequate measures are being taken to compensate the loss," he said. Earlier on Tuesday, farmers from 40 villages in Chhatarpur, reached district headquarters with a tractor full of hailstorm demanding compensation for their crops. Losses to crops and houses were reported from more than 30 villages in Tikkamgarh also. District collector Tikamgarh, M R Raghuraj said, "A total of 32 villages are affected and we have ordered a survey of the affected farmers. I check this chart daily, and yesterday everything was calm except for New York, Maine, and Tennessee. Today, everything is jumping.

Snowiest winter in 100 years paralyzes Moscow traffic for 3,500 km

February 6, 2013 – RUSSIA – The snowiest winter in a century has hit the Russian capital, causing Muscovites to get stuck in traffic jams 3,500km in length on Monday evening – the distance from Moscow to Madrid. Since the beginning of the winter, over 2 meters of snow has fallen on the Russian capital, the Moscow mayor’s aide in housing and public utilities Pyotr Biryukov told Interfax. Snowfall is expected in Moscow for four or five more days, he added. On Monday, 45,000 community services employees and 15,000 units of equipment were attempting to cope with 26 cm of snow – nearly a fifth of the average annual fall. The latest snowfall has become a nightmare for drivers with the capital’s commuters trapped in gridlock. Many of those who left their workplace in the evening had to spend five to 10 hours getting home. The average speed of vehicles was no more than 7-9 km/h. The number of road accidents – 3,000 – was much higher than during an ordinary day, with minor accidents quadrupling, according to Channel One TV. ­Pedestrians were having a hard time, too, trying to make their way through ice and huge snowdrifts on the sidewalks. Over 50 people were injured after falling. On Tuesday morning, the streets became virtual ‘skating rinks’, with passengers of minibuses forced to push the vehicles up the hill from time to time, and then jumping into the moving vehicles. Overnight, almost 150 huge trucks became stuck on the Moscow ring highway, blocking it for hours. Moscow’s Yandex Traffic Jams application showed that traffic was at level 10, the highest possible. The whole planet has been reverberating due to the quakes last night. I would say they have sent the planet into a wobble, may have shifted the planet on it's axis again. If we are indeed in a wobble or have shifted again, the weather is going to get even more crazy.

I got an eerie feeling after watching that video. We are less than 40 days into the year, and look how much craziness is going on all over the planet.

The wildfires in Australia are really concerning. In Texas and Louisiana, we have had major wildfires the past two years due to the heat. Now add the methane coming up all over LA. It is not looking good for the Summer months. Extreme heat that can cause wildfires and methane leaking from the ground sounds like a mixture for a wild explosion to me...That's if the sinkhole situation can hang on until Summer!

I know it's easy for people to say that don't live there, but anyone living in Bayou Corne needs to move. Just pick up and move your family and your belongings. Let the bank take your house back and let them worry about insurance and safety. It is obvious that the government is not going to protect the locals. The locals should have no sense of duty back to the town or local government.
