Major crustal fracture appears to have dominated the tectonics of the region of the Queen Charlotte Islands Fault movements in the past appear to have controlled the distribution of volcanic and plutonic
rocks and the distribution and nature of some sedimentary rocks, and they form the
major structural features of the present islands. Faulting is still active in this

Also, see the after shocks are shifting SSW? The Cascadia subduction zone runs from triple junctions at its north and south ends. To the north, just below Queen Charlotte Island, it intersects the Queen Charlotte Fault and the Explorer Ridge. To the south, just off of Cape Mendocino in California, it intersects the San Andreas Fault and the Mendocino fault zone at the Mendocino Triple Junction. The National Weather Service says a 7.7 magnitude earthquake occurred about 390 miles southeast of Juneau just after 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tsunami Warning Center officials issued a tsunami warning for southeast Alaska, but lifted the advisory shortly before midnight Alaska time. Residents in low-lying areas from the northern tip of Vancouver Island, British Columbia to Cape Decision, Alaska were advised during the warning to move inland to higher ground.

The National Weather Service said a small tsunami has been recorded in Southeast Alaska and is forecasted below 30 centimeters in Southcentral. ktuu.com
