I haven't been able to monitor as usual as I am accustomed to due to work but that looks like it's gonna be a pretty big quake from the looks of that signal there.

Finally we are getting a bit of news from the sinkhole and it doesn't look good. It is still "sloughing".

4.6 magnitude earthquake strikes Sicily

January 4, 2013 – SICILY, Italy – Earthquakes in Italy today: Sicily, Marche, Lazio, Umbria, Calabria and Basilicata regions affected. Today, the INGV has recorded four earthquakes in Italy that have affected districts seismic Gulf of Patti and Milazzo (magnitude 2.4), the Lipari Islands (magnitude 2.4 and 2.3) and Monti Reatini (magnitude 2). Affected the provinces of Messina, Rieti, Italy, Ascoli Piceno and Perugia. Yesterday, including those not yet reported, were recorded in the districts seismic shock of the Sea of Sicily (magnitude 2.9), the Lipari Islands (magnitude 2.7), the island of Ustica (magnitude 2.4) and Pollino (magnitude 2.1). Affected the provinces of Messina, Palermo, Cosenza and Power. A shallow 4.6 (USGS) magnitude earthquake also struck Sicily at a depth of 9.2 km (5.7 miles). The epicenter of the earthquake was 5 km (3 miles) from Maniace, 52 km (32 miles) NNW (332°) from Catania, Sicily, Italy and 72 km (45 miles) from Messina. The earthquake was felt by the population in the provinces of Messina and Catania, the town next to the epicenter are the municipalities of San Teodoro, Cesarò and Maniace. Southcentral Authorities Silent on Cause of Booming Noise

ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
Southcentral Alaska authorities didn’t have any immediate cause for a loud booming noise heard Thursday night and reported by Channel 2 viewers, but seemed to rule out sonic booms from aircraft in responses Friday.
Reports of the sounds were posted on Channel 2’s Facebook page Thursday evening by people ranging from Eagle River to the Mat-Su Valley. Some reports placed the phenomenon between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, with Channel 2's Late Edition airing a brief update on the reports. Viewers' descriptions of the sound varied, but those who heard it generally agreed that it was a strong and persistent noise.

I felt and heard this 'phenomenon' as they are calling it. Thursday night the ducks in the lake were squawking and quacking so loud they started around 7:30 I went to see if they were OK thinking maybe someone's dog was trying to get them or an eagle they were alright just excited. Came back in the house 'it' started at 8:03 I know this because I wrote the time down the noise was so loud and weird and I heard this high pitch tone right before.
This 'whatever' was bizarre it sounded like something huge was coming through the woods and knocking the trees down, it came from far away and then moved closer, it sounded like large amounts of dirt were being emptied into a hole (the sound you hear when a bucket loader drops a load of material into a hole) I was sure we had a series of earthquakes and kept checking sites, the hanging lamp in my room swayed, the dogs whined once then laid very still beside me. There were vibrations like you hear and feel when the volume is too loud on the surround sound and rumbling that sounded metallic. I went into the living room thinking my son had come in and turned the TV up really loud but no one else was home... then it quit. I had this strange sensation/feeling I felt this 'presence' from outside it's hard to describe I wasn't scared just this feeling something changed and it was big . Then I gave myself a pep-talk that someone would definitely think I was nuts if I said that, told myself there had to be a logical explanation. Thought it might have been the wind I checked all the sites there was nothing noted. Called several friends and they all heard 'something' loud but each one described it differently, one said he thought it was a huge wind surge, another thought the snow load had fallen off his house and shop but it hadn't, another thought it was a bunch of military airplanes. Didn't think anymore about it until I just read this story from the local TV Channel I have no idea what it was but writing this has me really thinking about it again now I'm wondering if it was atmospheric?

January 5, 2013 – AUSTRALIA - Australia’s southern island of Tasmania has experienced its hottest day since records began, with the capital Hobart sweltering at 41.8 Celsius (107.2 Fahrenheit) on Friday. The Bureau of Meteorology said the temperature in Tasmania, where records have been kept since the early 1880s, beat the previous high of 40.8 Celsius set in January 1976. “There are only three or four (days) on record over 40 degrees so it’s quite rare,” said Melbourne-based Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Murray Keable. Southern Australia has been experiencing a heat-wave that has seen bushfires destroy several buildings in Tasmania, and the temperature rise to 45 Celsius in the South Australian capital of Adelaide. Further inland Wudinna, on the Eyre Peninsula, hit 48.2 Celsius and a string of other South Australian towns topped 47 Celsius. In Australia’s biggest city Sydney, thousands headed to beaches to escape the heat but the temperature was much milder, hitting a maximum of just 29 Celsius in the city centre. –Space Daily

Up in flames: In Tasmania, east of Hobart, fires destroyed as many as 65 buildings at Dunalley and 15 at Boomer Bay. There were also unconfirmed reports that one life had been lost. Fires burned out of control in Victoria and South Australia where temperatures were well above 40C and strong southwesterly winds worsened conditions. Tasmanian fire authorities were making comparisons to the conditions that led to the 2009 Black Saturday fires in Victoria that left 173 people dead, state fire chief Mike Brown declaring “we reached catastrophic fire danger ratings at times this afternoon.” Deputy Police ommissioner Scott Tilyard said a team of experts had been sent to Forcett, near Dunalley, last night to verify a report that a person had died. “We’ve got people flying into the area at the moment to do an assessment of the Dunalley township in particular,” Mr Tilyard said. “That particular township … has been the hardest hit this afternoon by the fire that started at orcett“We have a report of about 50 people on the waterfront at Boomer Bay who are quite safe – there’s a fair bit of smoke in the area so there’s obviously concerns in relation to potential smoke inhalation, and we’ve got plans in place to, if necessary, evacuate those people by boat.” The buildings destroyed in Dunalley, by a blaze started in nearby Forcett, include a primary school, petrol station and the RSL. Resident Peter Crocker told the ABC: “To my knowledge, I know of at least two houses between myself and Dunalley that have been lost and I know of a couple of houses at Copping that have been destroyed by fire. “We’re going to try and go back into the area and see what’s there and see if we can salvage anything out of it or put any fires out, if the house is not already gone.” Tasmanian fire authorities upgraded a warning for another fire near Bicheno on the island’s east coast where campers were being evacuated and residents encouraged to act on their bushfire plans or leave. Fires are also burning on the mid-north coast of NSW near Forster and in western parts of Queensland. Inland Australia can expect temperatures above 40C for the next week, a prolonged heat-wave that will leave southern Australia on high bushfire alert. Meteorologists are describing the blast of hot air as unusual, given the size of the area it is affecting. Birdsville, in Queensland’s far west, had a high of 47.3C while Hobart reached a record 41.8C – one degree hotter than the record set in 1976. But it was South Australia that bore the brunt, with the wheat-town of Wudinna on the Eyre Peninsula recording a high of 48.2C and 20 people admitted to hospital with heat-related illness. Yep, That's what I've been watching I'll have to go back and find it somewhere on here I posted a report I found while digging one day about a fault line they found that went under Cook Inlet and ran from Russia to Yakutat Bay and down to Queen Charlotte Island there was a lot of information in there and there's been a lot of signs it was coming. Now I'm wondering if that weird stuff Thursday night was a pre-cursor like I said when that happened it felt like something shifted?

Yes I was just reading your post on that... wow.. cat has been nuts here for two days... actually really bugging me with his constant whining ... anyone else notice their animals being really annoying?

I hope we don't see anything major on the Denali Fault line triggered by that quake. I have to look for that report but I remember that other fault line butts right into Denali
That quake was over 700 miles away from me I live in South Central Alaska it's also call the Matanuska Valley or Mat-Su outside of Wasilla to the North heading towards Denali National Park and Fairbanks between Big Lake and Talkeetna

My Cats too and the dogs it's like they can't get close enough to me if I'd let them they'd all be in my lap and they act like they are starving! as you can see they are far from that lol but... it's like they can't get enough attention, food and water.

These big ones always hit when I am not up and monitoring.
