All work has been ceased at the Bayou Corne sinkhole after monitoring systems detected tremors Friday morning, officials said Friday. According to the Assumption Parish Police Jury website, the Office of Conservation and the Assumption Parish Incident Command detected elevated subsurface activity in the area around a massive 13-acre sinkhole. Seismic monitoring also detected water movement in the slurry as well as increased bubbling on the western side of the sinkhole. Experts say a brine cavern drilled into the underground Napoleonville salt dome may have caused the sinkhole after it collapsed. 350 residents in a nearby town have been evacuated as a result of the slurry area.

Gov. Bobby Jindal paid his first visit to the sinkhole Wednesday to meet with residents and reiterate plans to make the cavern's owner pay damages and offer fair buyouts to residents looking to move. Oxy-Geismar 3, the failed cavern believed to be responsible for the sinkhole is owned by Houston-based brine producer Texas Brine Co. LLC. Texas Brine mines caverns into the dome to harvest salt and the resulting brine mixture is then piped to nearby petrochemical companies. Jindal has also laid out a contingency plan for a second Texas Brine cavern, known as Oxy-Geismar 1, which experts say may have been drilled too close to the edge of the slat dome. Jindal said there is no data indicating a second cavern collapse is imminent. "The seismic activity is limited to the Oxy 3/sinkhole area, showing no indication of impact to the Oxy 1 area," the website said. "Monitoring is constantly ongoing in the area and Conservation will advice the public of significant changes in subsurface conditions."

Previously unknown magma layer in Earth’s mantle offers new insights into tectonics
Scientists have debated for decades as to what forces allow the planet’s tectonic plates to slide across the Earth’s mantle. Now, researchers have found a layer of liquefied molten rock in Earth’s mantle, which could potentially be that cause of the tectonic movements. This discovery will also improve our understanding of basic geologic functions of the planet and that of volcanism and earthquakes.

Scientists discovered this magma layer at the Middle America trench off Nicaragua’s shores. They imaged a 25 kilometer (15.5 mile) thick layer of partially melted mantle rock below the edge of the Cocos plate where it moves beneath Central America. Advanced seafloor electromagnetic imaging technology pioneered at Scripps Institution of Oceanography SIO was used for the purpose.

These images were captured during a 2010 expedition aboard the research vessel Melville. After deploying a vast array of seafloor instruments that recorded natural electromagnetic signals to map features of the crust and mantle, the scientists realized they had found magma in a surprising place. Kerry Key of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO) said,

“This was completely unexpected. We went out looking to get an idea of how fluids are interacting with plate subduction, but we discovered a melt layer we weren’t expecting to find.”

Since their discovery over 50 years ago, the Earth's Van Allen radiation belts have been considered to consist of two distinct zones of trapped, highly energetic charged particles. The outer zone is comprised predominantly of mega-electron volt (MeV) electrons that wax and wane in intensity on time scales ranging from hours to days depending primarily on external forcing by the solar wind. The spatially separated inner zone is comprised of commingled high-energy electrons and very energetic positive ions (mostly protons), the latter being stable in intensity levels over years to decades. In situ energy-specific and temporally resolved spacecraft observations reveal an isolated third ring, or torus, of high-energy (E > 2 MeV) electrons that formed on 2 September 2012 and persisted largely unchanged in the geocentric radial range of 3.0 to ~3.5 Earth radii for over four weeks before being disrupted (and virtually annihilated) by a powerful interplanetary shock wave passage.

While the pattern for each plate boundary earthquake was unique, on average, the seismicity along the faults was nearly constant until about two months before a big earthquake, when there was a small but noticeable increase, the researchers found. Seismicity refers to the geographic and time distribution of earthquakes.

I wasn't able to find the news piece(s) in 2012, but in 2011 I read some reprinted news release that I think was from 2003, maybe 2006. The reprint date on the first one was 2010. Anyway, HAARP was announcing the beginning of a 3 year study in the auroral electrojets. My understandng of the intent was to bring specific particles from the van allen belts into the ionosphere as these particles were more highly charged (more potential power release) than what occurred there naturally or was found there, and then conduct experiments.

Not what is addressed above, but it does show there has been an interest in placing the particles into the ionosphere and experimenting with them.

No, I can't prove it, can't find the article, so just take it as info you can consider and store away in your mind or reject.

It boggles the mind that the current methane crisis (because that's what it is) gets so little attention by ANYONE. It's not a joke. People don't seem to realize that a lot of shit going on in the oceans right now (mass die offs and bizarre animal behavior) are tied directly to the methane releases that are going on with increasing frequency. Not to mention the alarming rate in which the ice sheets are disintegrating and releasing methane into the atmosphere. And this is not something that is going to slow - we've reached a tipping point and it is just going to get worse until there's no one left to give a shit...
