An advanced country is one where you don't stone a young girl to death because she got raped.

The person makin the statement of "Advanced or Enlightened" is basing it on his/her own abillity of understanding. Know the person and you will know the statement.

That's my problem ...it's actually a subjective and therefore meaningless! But wondering if it has anything to do with this other bizarre concept of collective enlightenment LOL

Re: What is the definition of an advanced or developed country, or people for that matter?
Well an advanced society could be defined as one that has collected information, refined it, defined themselves and have constructed a functioning social structure from it that allows them to grow and develop positively and intelligently as appose to remaining in the same sad state of affairs for centuries and relying on superstition and bizarre violent beliefs to barley maintain a violent social structure.

Enlightenment can mean a lot of things. But I think when referring to communities it means those who have been granted a broader scope of insights and educations from various points of view allowing them to make informed decisions based on facts and rational thought, again as appose to superstition and ideological stories typically stemming from 1 source.

This is my problem and dilemma..because I wonder if is there actually a mutually accessible goal or acceptable collective compromise, that can include and accommodate different views and values (even if those views are somewhat delusional), or is development just the continual conflict and fight for absolute authority? Is development process of natural evolution or a diversionary a tactic used to keep the status quo! Again it might simply that human beings are fickle and crave new challenges and experiences to justify life and existence (whether for good or bad) and development is the never ending carrot to motive, inspire or control us, selectively introduced to achieve or maintain an agenda of an individual or group control–at many different levels!

Sometimes I feel it is simply the illusion to hide and mask our real limitations – our inability to be stable, tolerant, transparent and inclusive – and therefore trusting. Someone on another thread said rightly that we are still following the same feudal practices and false hierarchal structures of our ancestors, but now on fully global scale. So the wars, violence, fears or division don’t stop, nor have the imbalances and levels of poverty changed... they just get moved and shifted around to other places.

Now I am not an idealist, but having worked in both supposedly developed and developing countries (not my personal terms of reference...as each place is a product of their geopolitical orientation, history and current controlling factors)m but as a realist I think people are getting further away from being both connected or free as individuals or collective beings, because of the concept of development and advancement has no uniformity, yet ironically humanitarian issues remain similar and constant. It does seem strange that in every single country the same disparities exist..where the top 20% of each population owns or controls approx 70-80% of the resources..which is an absurd reality ..is that actually progress or the natural cost of development?

Please note - these are just some thoughts without any particular agenda.

"Advanced" or "developed" is NWO doublespeak for "cashed out" and "already sucked dry." The G7 nations....US, Europe, Japan, Canada/AUS/NZ, maybe a few others like Singapore and South Korea.

These nations share the following characteristics:
Lots of debt, fiscal nightmares
Dwindling populations (except US) or ageing populations
Faded glory
Hollowed out heavy industry (offshored) and bullshit "new information economy" financialization
Joblessness
Low return on investment
Culutural malaise

I know, its freaky.

I think the problem is that the expression "third world" is used in two different ways. In its original sense, if I am not mistaken, Mao Tse-Tsung used to refer to countries that were poor and were not part of either the US or the USSR spheres of influence: India, Aftica, much of Latin America, and China itself. So in this scheme, the US/USSR and associated allies are the first two worlds, and everybody else is the third world.

Later people started using the term more in its current sense, indepenedent of the old cold-war US/USSR rivalry. But they didn't really bother to come up with a clear definition of the second world under this schema. In this system, the rich developed world (presumably G-7 nations) is the first world, the poor countries are the third world...but who is the second world? Excacty, its sort of left undefined.

At least that's my understanding of it.
