Anonymous Coward User ID: 1044 Canada 09/04/2005 09:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "In that way, we were told (and I was not the only person in the dining room who heard all this), this served to chase out the niggers and permit Bush-supporting businessmen from buying up the soon-to-be condemned sodden houses for five cents on the dollar from friendly insurance companies (which one of them was a CEO of) and put up an enlarged and very profitable combination of industrial park and office building section. The money for this would, naturally, come from government grants which a terrified Congress (Mid Term elections are coming) had just voted for and the contracts to demolish the wrecked low-income slums would go, as a no-bid contract, to another stellar Bush supporter." -- Voice of the White House, 9/1/05 [link to www.tbrnews.org] |

I used to get quite a few firewall hits from halliburton. Also seen a couple from Sandia National Labs. Used to get hits EVERYDAY from the DOD Space and Naval Warfare Systems (look for IPīs that start with 204,5). Since the hurricane hit, things are real quiet except for china. Weīre talking a drop from several thousand hits/day to a couple hundred hits today. |

ADVERTISEMENT Halliburton subsidiary KBR will also perform damage assessments at other naval installations in New Orleans as soon as it is safe to do so. KBR was assigned the work under a "construction capabilities" contract awarded in 2004 after a competitive bidding process. The company is not involved in the Army Corps of Engineersī effort to repair New Orleansī levees. Shadow nli User ID: 5037 Canada 09/05/2005 09:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | New Orleans has the largest port in the US and 5th largest in the world. Without people to run it (like right now) there is no importing or exporting of goods. A disaster. >>A simple way to think about the New Orleans port complex is that it is where the bulk commodities of agriculture go out to the world and the bulk commodities of industrialism come in. The commodity chain of the global food industry starts here, as does that of American industrialism. If these facilities are gone, more than the price of goods shifts: The very physical structure of the global economy would have to be reshaped. Consider the impact to the U.S. auto industry if steel doesnīt come up the river, or the effect on global food supplies if U.S. corn and soybeans donīt get to the markets.<< [link to 2cents.dailyreckoning.com] I started a thread on this, Iīm really disappointed so few found it relevant. Without the Ports of South Louisiana and New Orleans, 52 million tons a year of exports sit in the granaries and rot. No processed food comes in. Going to be pretty nasty for ALL Americans nott just the Katrina affected states and not just fuel. |
