Obviously not so let me enlighten you - all the safeguards were turned off to test the cooling ability of the reactor systems and this resulted in a catastrophic explosion. Water turned to steam so fast that the reactor quite literally blew off the upper part of its superstructure and the core of the reactor was exposed to the outside wall. If you looked down from the roof inside the building, you would see nuclear reaction happening with your very own eyes. Then of course you would die a moment later as Chernobyl pushed out 200000-300000 sieverts/hour. The entire inside mass of the reactor was blown out and the radiation exposure was at unreal levels. Forests actually glowed red due to the radiation and even after all these years and cleanup, some spots put out radiation in hundreds of sieverts per hour. It was so intense that the reactor had a bright blue light going in up the air at nights.

Nothing like that has happened in Fukushima. The core rods of reactors 1,2 and three have melted. At least the first reactor has a complete meltdown. The boiling nuclear matter is sitting in the containment dome under the reactor superstructure and cooling off. It might very well melt through the concrete floor and enter soil, reach the water streams in the earth and then you will have your Chernobyl. Not before. If it does not melt through, it will sit in the containment dome and cool off. It will take years before anything can be done about it, as it is currently putting out hundreds of sieverts per hour. Inside the containment area, not outside the reactor. No-one is denying that the reactors have melted down. They have. But that meltdown is nothing like the event that human idiocy caused at the Ukraine plant.

This accident is far worse than Chernobyl. Four reactors, each one 4x the size of Chernobyl + Plutonium + 8,000 tons of fuel in the pools - 60 days later and nothing being done to stop the radiation. Just be patient, soon half of Japan will be uninhabitable.

If we have a steam explosion (like the one that happened in Chernobyl), it will level the entire plant. We are talking about the end of Japan as we know it. China and Korea will get hit as well and heaven save the world if a big typhoon decides to move over the area. There are a bunch of really big reactors just a stone throw away from the Fukushima Daiichi plant and if the Fukushima area is gone, those reactors will go unchecked as well. Sure, workers might stay in the plant to try to cold stop the reactors but they will die in a matter of hours. Perhaps a day or two and as far as I know, it takes weeks and even months to completely shut down a reactor.

The radiation would be off the charts for hundreds of years. Absolutely no-one will see that plant and the area with their own eyes for a very long time. Trust me, that's a scenario you don't want to see unfold.
