Black Boxes In New Cars-Remove Them In Protest
Removing these from vehicles is a way to peacefully protest that we will not allow them to implement their police state control grid.
I cannot post the link to the article because it is being censored.

"The feds will mandate next month that all new cars be fitted with a black box, according to news reports. So-called black boxes record information about speed, seat belt use and brake application.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has been involved in the use of black boxes since their introduction. In 2006, the safety administration encouraged but did not require automobile manufacturers to install the systems and also did not set a single standard for the way data would be recorded, according to the New York Times.
In February, NHTSA administrator David Strickland said the government was considering making the technology mandatory in the wake of recalls of millions of Toyota vehicles. Strickland made the disclosure to a subcommittee hearing by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
Now they will make the installation of these device mandatory under federal law. If we are to gauge the reaction of the corporate media, this story is not very important. Outside of industry and technology publications, the story was not reported.
Computer chip manufacturer Intel showed off its event recorder last year following the Toyota recall. “With new vehicles, there will very likely be video cameras inside and outside,” said Intel’s chief technology office, Justin Rattner, in a July, 2010, interview. “It’s not particularly new or stunning, but when you combine the cameras with GPS, you’re geo-tagging the video.”
In other words, your car – like your smart phone – may soon become a surveillance device and high-tech snooping will be mandated by the federal government."

They're for your own good. You wouldn't want the black box removed from the airliner you're flying in would you? Of course not and besides, removing it from your new car will void the warranty.

Two issues here.

1. Some Manufacturers use this information when servicing your car. I have read claims that your warranty will be voided if you remove/tamper with these devices.

2. The"black box" is usually buried somewhere in the car that is very difficult to get to.

If you are a decent mechanic, you can remove one but you risks the warranty issue.

Only reason I know anything about this is because my car has one and many people in the sports car community picked up on the fact that these devices were recording data that could be used by the manufacturer to prove you have been tracking the car.

For your own good, HARDLY. They are nothing but a spying device. Airliners carry them because they crash from time to time, killing everyone on board. The data is then used to reconstruct the accident and determine the cause. Determine the cause, fix the problem, it doesn't happen again. Not the same with an automobile. Auto accidents are easily reconstructed and not often if ever caused by some undetermined mechanical failure. Even the most odd accidents such as an electronic throttle sticking (Toyota) are diagnosed without supporting devices such as a black box.

Scary stuff you said.

Too much like "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."

My vehicle is not a public transportation device like a airliner.

Expanding your thought process, It is for my own good to require that I take certain pills, eat certain foods, and only go to certain places.

Does that mean the government should madate that too?

Sheesh. TRY to think about what you say.
There's always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT!

All they are doing with this crap is further destroying the economy.

They've already got me to quit the goddamn cell phones due to privacy/tracking concerns. Sorry cell companies, you lost my business thru the fault of the snooping government.

And now, car companies will get the same "sorry, you lost my business" treatment when they go this route.

As I said elsewhere... let's see em try to retrofit a black box in my '69 Camaro SS. Over my dead body!!!

A lot of that real world data is very handy to a manufacturer to see how people use their products in the real world, what they should test for later, what causes them to crash/fail and how to improve them in future

Open one up when you get one and see if it has GPS or a transmitter inside, if it doesn't, then what you worrying about?

If you're that paranoid about the black box, burn your computer, it's giving away MUCH MUCH MUUUUCH more info to the government and people you don't know

A black box in an airplane won't prevent you from crashing, doesn't film or record you, or track your every move as an individual. They are intended to shed light on why crashes occurred. In traffic accident situations that is often easy to determine from the scene and witnesses, while in an air crash the scene is often not confined to a small area and is usually burned beyond any hope of determining anything. Also, since plane crashes usually involve only one vehicle the causes are less clear. This device is intended to benefit insurance companies. It will create more government jobs to review and testify based on the data and more expenses for taxpayers like all mandated policies do. This won't save a life; it only makes it easier to prosecute and penalize, and this is certain to be used in conjunction with tracking to charge you a per mile tax as proposed.

Wrong about everything and sounds like spin. The real reason for aircraft blackboxes is to find out what happened and re-engineer the aircraft to prevent future accidents of the same type.

As for automobiles, insurance company access to accident information is a side benefit. It's really there for control by the super state, Orwellian.

What spin? That implies I am a shill in support of this nightmare, or you are, because that makes no sense. As I said, those boxes don't keep you alive. Rarely, they shed some insight into mechanical problems which need to be addressed. We already find these problems in car accidents because the cars aren't blown into millions of pieces scattered over miles. The goal is to determine fault, mainly, not to improve the product. You sure you replied to the right post? Yes, control is the issue and these are aspects of this program. Insurance companies didn't get those giant buildings by paying out as much as possible. This will require more taxes for employees to read the data. More gvt intrusion in our daily lives and I have not seen any evidence of a clear benefit to the people which justifies this intrusive technology.

"Oh come on you dumbass. Everyone else is ok with it so obviously it's no big deal! Stop playing the paranoid lone wolf and come join the bleating sheep party, we're having a blast doing everything in unison!! BAHHHH!!"

In other words, you believe taking a firm stance based on integrity, ethics and morals, and having the courage of my convictions to deprive myself of something (that could be pretty cool), just based upon principle is STUPID.

I couldn't disagree with you more. It's simply not possible.

Likely there is no physical "blackbox" just functionality built into the engine control module that stores the data in some flash memory in the same module and able to be read out via the OBD port that every car has. Attempting to remove the ECM will just leave you with a dead car since no fuel injected engine can operate without its ECM. And good luck trying to hack the software in the ECM. that software is a closely guarded secret
