I live on the east coast of florida. 2 blocks from the beach.We always have a plan and are always prepared. We have different plans depending on what direction the hurricane is coming from and what strength it is. If it is coming from the west coast we stay if it is coming directly at us (coming from the east) we evacuate for anything 2 or above. If it is a 5 we get a moving truck and pack up everything.

I think a CAT 5 is gonna totally destroy New Orleans.

we haven't had anything since wilma in 2005 so we are due here in so fl and all i have to do is fill up the gas containers and pull the shutters closed and i have done EVERYTHING i can.

same here with the hurricane shutters, I love those things. I also close them when the sun hits the west side of the house, saves me a ton on my a/c bill.
The toughest thing I have to do is keep 3 of my relatives from panicking (an aunt and 2 cousins) while expressing to my mother the need for her to evacuate. She is stubborn as a mule and routinely refuses to evacuate.
As far as the general population goes, people around here are worried it will be another 2004. They talk about it in the grocery stores, high school graduations, at the local pubs etc.

I doubt the hurricane season will be bad since the reason we are seeing these storms is the meeting of cold air from the north and warm air from the south. Normally by now the cold lifts north and eases. What is unusual is the rush of cold air down towards the south. The pattern is the fall is likely to be strong cold fronts pushing far south and driving the storms away.

That is basically what my thinking was, unfortunately the only thing predictable about the weather is its unpredictability.

Our summer time afternoon thunderstorms used to arrive like clock work. Every day at 4 we would get thunderstorms. About 15 years ago it switched to every day at 2 but for the last 8 years we have hardly gotten any of the usual afternoon storms and when we do they are very mild and at odd times.

One has ZERO influence on the other.
