End droughts and floods.
Ok I am not a engineer or hydrologist or a member of the Army Corp. Why can't we build a national pipeline from the areas that flood to areas in drought ? I realize this would be a massive undertaking but it would have to be cheaper than the yearly damage done by flood and drought. This would require 5-10 LARGE dams scattered around the nation. For example, the millions of gallons from the Mississippi could be sucked into large intake pipes are routed to dams. Those dams would have pipelines thru out the area and even to other pipelines to other dams. There are areas which historically are prone to floods, start there. Why couldn't the overflow in the Mississippi delta be sent to California or Texas or Arizona? The new dams could provide hydro-electric power which could assist for some of the vast amount of power needed to pump water hundred or thousands of miles. All of this fresh water could end drought, well almost, and limit floods, well almost. In addition, the additional fresh water could help create new farmland in parched areas and keep our existing farms/ranches green.
It would take years to do, $$$ billions, and employ millions in a national program that would help EVERY American.

Why Not ?1rof1

Re: End droughts and floods.
What an awesome idea! It's a simple solution to a huge problem. But unfortunately, the reson the government won't entertain an idea like this is because there's no profit. The oil pipeline had huge profits on the end of the project. Solving a national problem, like droughts and floodings, not very high on our government's list of priorities which is too bad.
