Why can't I be a musical genius? | |

It takes a while before you can finally be happy with your music. Even the greatest musicians to live, like Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, many were very very self-conscious about their music. Don't give up. Your dreams prove that you have the talent and drive to do it. |

To them… a touch is a blow, a sound is a noise, a misfortune is a tragedy, a joy is an ecstasy, a friend is a lover, a lover is a god, and failure is death. Add to this cruelly delicate organism the overpowering necessity to create, create, create — so that without the creating of music or poetry or books or buildings or something of meaning, their very breath is cut off… They must create, must pour out creation. By some strange, unknown, inward urgency they are not really alive unless they are creating.” - Pearl Buck |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1404899Just kidding. But seriously, we can't all be Mozarts. Wow, fantastic advice. You are a saint among men. Keep spreading your words of wisdom for all to learn and prosper. Seriously though, OP, negative thinking like this is the reason we are not all Mozart's. Rock on dude - like I said do not give up for anything, EVER. I'm a fellow musician, I know what it's like, it takes a lot of courage and self-confidence. |

My heart wants to belt out the most beautiful sounds known to man but it just doesn't happen. Curiously, in my dreams I hear beautiful music that for some reason I can't reproduce in waking life. Anyone else feel me here? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1399152Maybe you're not on the right instrument. Maybe you're not in the right genre. It took me a long time before I became comfortable with the music I make, and I still don't LIKE it. Keep trying and never give up. If guitar doesn't work for you, try bass, if that don't work, try keys, just keep trying until you find your groove. |

I've been playing guitar for about 12 years. But I started when I was 18, so I probably missed my window of opportunity for developing a solid musical intuition. I really admire those who have worked their asses off to produce beautiful music. It certainly seems to come at a price. I'm not saying that I want to obtain anything without sacrifice. All I'm saying is that I believe everyone has the capacity to create beautiful music. It can be something as simple as humming your own tune. When I create music, I typically feel like something is missing. It seems incomplete to me. Perhaps I should share it more with others. But, then again, it makes me question why I want to create music in the first place. Is it to gain attention and approval from others? Or is it to make something first and foremost that is amazing to me and only me? |
