Do some things you would really enjoy and then plan some quality time with your family when they return. I am sorry that they won't be there for you, but it's nice that you love them like that and miss them.

Call up some of your friends that you haven't seen in awhile and have them over for a BBQ.

You are temporarily alone for one holiday. Some people are alone every holiday. Take advantage of the situation and either spend some time on yourself or plan something special for your family when they get home. That way you have something to look forward to and something to occupy your time while they are gone. Paint the kids bedrooms, put together a surprise for your wife, do some landscaping in the yard, catch up on your honey-do list, plan a special family night out.

Why don't you try to spend some time with some other people in your community who might be worse off than you are? Try to get out of a mindset that you are suffering and help someone else out. Buy some small gifts and go visit a hospital and give a Christmas present to some kid there, or give some food away or something. And with Skype you can see and talk with your family and or friends whenever you want.
