Americans tend to be friendly and smile and say hi to people in public, but that seems to be taboo in western Europe. I lived in Netherlands and when you stand in the line at the grocery store, people do not even make eye contact with one another.
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1045689Completely depends where you live, counts for U.S. and NW-Europe. Cannot imagine you will be walking through Manhattan doing a Crocodile Dundee waving at everybody. I live in a small village, and we all still say hello - out on the street and in the grocery stores. I work in the city, and -indeed- no-one does what you said.
