Police questioned me after an email to my congressman

here is the thing, they GOT the letter obviously, and read it.
now the OP is saying something very basic, as basic as 'rape is wrong' .......

so why send the cops then, instead of a letter back saying we agree this is a serious issue.

that the congressman read his letter and all they did was send the cops after him. that would set a crazy person off even more no doubt.

but what i'm saying is probably too complex for the meat heads here to comprehend. dont worry OP, there are other smart people out there - we just have to dumb ourselves down sometimes to interact with people :-/

Just minutes ago, the police left my house. They were "investigating" an email that I sent to my congressman. I was frustrated and sent this email to my congressman (as I've done many times):


Good afternoon Congressman Mulvaney,

It has come to my attention that this nation needs a big change concerning law enforcement. It's not only cases such as the one in NJ recently about officers firing 33 rounds into homes and cars to kill a neighborhood dog, but personal cases of my own that I've actually witnessed here in SC.
The fact that police can use this excessive force whenever they want is unacceptable. I'm personally looking to YOU to help us change this. Not just in SC, but across the nation.
I should NEVER be afraid to speak to, see, or be around a police officer, but I am. In fact, every one of my peers feels the same way. As a 22 year old fresh out of college, the burden to sustain this country is going to be on MY shoulders soon. I will NOT have the only entity that can legally deprive its citizens of their life, liberty, and property free to run amok in this manner. It's a power that should be SEVERELY limited, and I certainly hope that you would agree.
Mick Mulvaney, my blood will be on your hands if a police officer acts in this way in my neighborhood. I WILL take action against an oppressive power of this nature, and will likely die doing so. It's unfortunate that this is the nature of things these days and I certainly hope that you can help. Your job depends on it.

A few moments ago, police knocked on my door to question me about it. I actually thought they were going to question me about an incident in the neighborhood recently, but to my surprise, mentioned my letter to Mick Mulvaney. They said that it sounded threatening and they were coming to just check on things...
One of the officers was actually a guy I went to highschool with, so I didn't make a scene or anything. I just thought that it was kind of strange that they'd be so on edge about this. I wonder if they investigate every irate citizen's emails to their congressmen...

I don't threaten violence on the internet or in letters to congressmen, just a personal thing. You can do what you want, tough guy.

I am watching the system implode (without any violence from me) and what good would I do any cause if I die in its infancy?

All you're doing is drawing attention to yourself. Writing a letter won't do anything but get the cops called on you (obviously)

You don't have to be afraid of police, but there's also no practical reason for running your mouth about how not-afraid you are; it's just going to upset them and make you a more visible target, and it WONT ACTUALLY CHANGE ANYTHING (obviously)

If you want to make a difference, help your fellow nonviolent citizens to improve their quality of life on a local, individual level. Even though your ego might get in the way, it would serve you well to try to lay a bit lower.

Let me get this straight...

You have a college education, but didn't understand that the last paragraph was easily interpreted as your intent to kill law enforcement and die in the process?

You did have to take some English classes right?

Try to remember to proof read any correspondence you write to ANYONE in the future, and try to read it from the perspective of it's intended recipient.

Keep in mind that you are now on record for sending a letter mentioning violent intentions to a Government Official.

If you strike out again, you very well may have any number of charges laid down on you.

I suggest you put the pen down, and look to others to author your frustrations for you.

You showed very poor judgment in writing and sending this letter with that last paragraph included.

With the inclusion, it sounds like you're trying to arrange a death-by-cop.

I want to make sure you've all read the article that I was referring to when I posted this.
Police put 33 bullet holes in houses and cars in a crowded neighborhood to shoot a non-threatening neighborhood dog.
So...YES, I'll shoot back if that happens in my neighborhood. AND I'll likely die from it. When bullets are coming through your windows and drywall, what will your reaction be? It's simple fight or flight...I choose to fight.
THAT'S what I mean by the statement.

But I can certainly see how someone who didn't read the article I was referring to could take it badly. "My blood is on your hands" may have been a bit much lol, but honestly this is not that much worse than any of the others I've sent which includes large amounts of swearing, etc...

People would rather remark on the severity of violent words to their gov. No wonder we're in the situation that we are. Fear seems to be rampant in this country.
